Job purpose

The Manager Data Scientist uses data and analytics to deliver business value.They aren’t afraid of large, messy, or unstructured data or complex machine learning algorithms, but they won’t hesitate to solve the problem with a simple spreadsheet, if that’s the best answer.They can work autonomously, or as part of team.They work directly and communicate efficiently with partners and stakeholders in technology, marketing, credit risk, operations, legal, and other domains to understand the problem and craft a solution.

The Manager Data Scientist in this role will work with business partners to deeply understand business problems, analyze existing datasets to derive actionable business insights as well as design and analyze tests. They are comfortable working both with large and small datasets and are adept at handling issues found in each. They have a sound statistical understanding and how to apply a range of algorithms (including machine learning algorithms) across a range of business problems. This associate will work with key stakeholders to determine business requirements, compile and quality check data and data sources, and drive conversations about the analytic results and implications.

Duties and responsibilities

• Design and analyze experiments to test new business capabilities or functions
• Ensure analytic objectives and success measures are aligned with business needs and outcomes
• Manage analytic solutions (data, tools reports, models) that advance and accelerate business partner agenda
• Proactively manage communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Prepare reports of analysis results for business partners and other non-technical audiences
• Write “production worthy” code and perform code review and necessary testing to ensure that data products meet the highest quality and production standards
• Identify opportunities to apply statistical methods to improve business performance, advance new strategies or to solve existing challenges.
• Work cross-functionally with peers in Technology, product, and business analysts to identify new attributes and applications
• Create business intelligence, dashboards, and/or other advanced analytics metrics and reports to adequately communicate the business narrative and offer recommendations that are actionable and have material impact.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Math, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, or related field
• Proficient with Python, R, SQL or other common analytic programming languages
• 6- 8 years’ experience as a consulting statistician or data scientist in consumer lending industry
• Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with machine learning algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised learning and ensemble methods.
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar
• Extensive experience in building, validating, and deploying predictive models, especially in the context of credit scoring, risk assessment, and customer segmentation.
• Sound understanding of design of experiments, statistical theory and analytic application

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree preferred
• Familiarity with software management and change control systems, such as Git, GitHub, Bitbucket, etc.
