What You’ll Do:
The Manager, Technical Accounting will be responsible primarily for executing the technical accounting and accounting policy efforts of the Company, including the maintenance of accounting policies and practices, as well as contributing to the education of key stakeholders on technical accounting compliance as it relates to all aspects of business operations. Must be an extremely hands-on self-starter who is able to work independently.
- Research and analyze technical accounting matters; including, but not limited to, acquisitions and divestitures, consolidation, cost accounting and inventory management, debt and equity capitalization, discontinued operations, foreign currency translation, leases, revenue recognition and share-based compensation.
- Perform ad hoc research projects on the identification and application of appropriate technical accounting guidance, rules and regulations specific to new and/or unique business transactions. Work closely with Director, Technical Reporting to effectively communicating assessments and recommendations to executive management on the best approach for ensuring compliance with US GAAP as well as the regulations of the Canadian Securities Exchange (“CSE”) and Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”).
- Stay current with evolving accounting and regulatory changes and research emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes, evaluating their potential impact to the Company’s accounting practices, financial statements and disclosures. Prepare comprehensive documentation of analyses and assessments.
- Assist in the adoption and implementation of new accounting standards.
- Develop and maintain a repository of technical accounting policies and procedures that are continuously compliant with evolving US GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with Director, Technical Accounting to proactively advise executive management on potential technical accounting impacts and/or alternatives for complex transactions.
- Support the External Reporting function in the timely preparation and filing of accurate and complete quarterly and annual financial reports with the CSE and SEC, including all financial statements and footnote disclosures.
- Assist in the conversion to US GAAP of international operations reporting under IFRS to support the presentation of consolidated financial statements to be submitted to the CSE and SEC.
- Work with the Internal Controls function to assess current accounting operations, offer recommendations for improvement and to implement new accounting processes. Identify opportunities to enhance, optimize and/or replace existing procedures and processes to reduce risks and increase efficiencies, quality and productivity.
- Work cross-functionally to execute and evidence internal controls specific to accounting, the consolidation process and external financial reporting. - Liaison with external auditors with regards to audit requests for technical accounting memos and assessments.
- Prepare and assist in the execution of technical accounting training, as needed.
- Travel Requirements: 10%
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc requests and perform other duties as assigned.

Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- CPA required.
- Minimum 4 years of progressive financial reporting and/or accounting experience in a medium - large public company, a division of a medium - large public company and/or public accounting firms.
- Minimum of 1 year of intensive experience preparing and/or supporting the preparation and presentation of financial statements under guidelines established by the SEC and in accordance with US GAAP.
- Technical accounting and financial reporting acumen, with a specific emphasis on US GAAP.
- Exposure to maintaining an effective and efficient internal control environment.
- Effective critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels and functions within the organization and with external contributors, including auditors, consultants and legal counsel.
- Experience working effectively with auditors.
- Self-starter; ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, to roll up sleeves and dig in and to make decisions.
- Ability to work effectively in a rapidly evolving and team-oriented business environment.
- Very strong drive, dedication and work ethic.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Extremely team-oriented with the ability to contribute in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment. Adept in people management and conflict management.
- Ability to delegate effectively.
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented, process-oriented and control-oriented.
- Big 4 public accounting experience, preferred.
- Extensive experience in one or more technical accounting areas, preferred.
- Technical knowledge of CSE rules and regulations, preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, preferred.
- IPO experience, preferred.
