Job Summary
FMP Group is seeking a detail-oriented and driven Planner / Estimator to support our Mechanical Services division. This role plays a critical part in securing and delivering work across industrial facilities throughout Alberta.

Our Mechanical Services include Field Machining, Technical Bolting, Heat Treatment, Leak Repair, Hot Tapping, Composite Repairs, line freezing, Exchanger Repair, Hydrotesting, Combustion work on projects, turnarounds, and ongoing Maintenance. The successful candidate will bridge operations and business development by developing competitive bids, planning execution strategies, and supporting project delivery from opportunity through completion.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and bid packages for mechanical service projects
  • Review RFQs, drawings, specifications, and client documentation
  • Develop manpower, equipment, and material plans for field execution
  • Coordinate with operations to validate scope, production rates, and risk factors
  • Assist with project scheduling and turnaround planning
  • Identify cost risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Support proposal development and client clarifications
  • Maintain historical cost data and continuously improve estimating accuracy
  • Assist operations during project kickoff and execution when required

Mechanical Service Focus Areas

  • Field Machining (flange facing, line boring, milling, drilling)
  • Technical Bolting & Controlled Tightening
  • Heat Treatment (PWHT, local and furnace)
  • Turnarounds & Outage Planning
  • Facility Maintenance Support

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in industrial speciality mechanical services, estimating, or project planning
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, isometrics, and mechanical drawings
  • Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Effective communication and coordination abilities
  • Ability to work under bid deadlines while maintaining accuracy

Considered an Asset

  • Background in field supervision or hands-on speciality mechanical services
  • Turnaround planning experience
  • Knowledge of Alberta industrial safety standards
  • Strong understanding of refinery, oil sands, or heavy industrial environments
