Position Specific Description
This position performs engineering tasks that require extensive analysis of mechanical components utilized across our enterprise. This position also includes responsibilities for technical decisions associated with important or complex projects to support the business plan. This position performs general procurement engineering functions, with special emphasis on reverse engineering (RE) of mechanical components, Item Equivalency Evaluations (IEE), development of associated cost-effective countermeasures, and providing expert advice for component design, manufacturing processes and quality control.
This position performs reverse engineering of mechanical components and assemblies, test and measurement, inspection, and analysis and familiarity with material spec requirements, such as chemical composition, material heat treatment and hardness. Direct experience with reverse engineering, manufacturing processes, component and vendor quality control and use of CAD design programs is preferred.
This position is located at the ISC Technical Services facility in West Palm Beach. This position is for all activities associated with reverse engineering of mechanical components, such as valves, pumps, gears etc. while ensuring the highest quality of parts delivered to the applicable business units.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishes reverse engineering requirements and provides a plan or methodology to collect design data, conduct testing and analysis for a variety of power plant electronics and components.
- Conducts or participates in the initial screening and cost analysis of a component to determine if reverse engineering of the component will result in a cost savings benefit.
- Conduct or lead RE projects utilizing in-house inspection/test equipment and technicians or use of qualified vendors or commercial vendors with appropriate quality controls and verification/validation activities as appropriate.
- Analyze, format and summarize collected design and component "as built" data into working documents, such as, manufacturing, operations and technique sheets, detailed drawings, that will identify the necessary materials, dimensions, manufacturing and special processes and quality standards to re-manufacture a component.
- Ensure that traditional and advanced data collection techniques are appropriate for the reversed engineered component and when applicable properly calibrated Measuring and Test Equipment (M&TE) be used in the collection of data.
- Identify and recommend commercial or qualified manufacturers/vendors to conduct either RE activities or conduct the actual manufacturing of the component.
- If necessary, conduct a final cost analysis and return on investment (ROI) to determine if the RE project meets business objects or justify the need when cost savings are minimal.
- Establishes procurement engineering documents which result in accurate technical and quality information supporting proper procurement and cost savings where appropriate.
- Maintains plant configuration utilizing or initiating appropriate change document (item equivalency or design change).
