We are seeking a Director level executive with a strong track record of business leadership, strategic sales, operational, and management skills, for a new carbon solution we are scaling with a global real estate developer and investor.
This individual is the leader of the new venture, accountable for the overall business, establishing priorities and driving progress, managing individuals and filling the key hires, overseeing product and go-to-market efforts with the respective leaders, signing early customers and reporting progress to and fundraising with the Venture Board.
In addition, they will manage the relationship with the Venture Board, office of Innovation, and other stakeholders in the parent company.
The role is a contract position (12 months), with an opportunity to convert to full-time.
The Role
- Lead the development and growth of the venture and its operations
- Develop the business model, validate revenue model and understand operating costs
- Lead individuals in the venture, coach and manage performance, assign ownership and accountability, identify gaps in skills and lead hiring.
- Spearhead strategic sales, form key partnerships and help bring first paying customers on the platform.
- Empower Product and Go-To-Market efforts as the team iterates and works to perfect the product-market-fit.
- Help leverage the competitive advantages and key assets of the sponsor company, and key partners, to further the business objectives of the venture
- Manage relationships between the venture, its New Venture Board and other stakeholders within the sponsor company
- Partner with relevant groups within the client company, manage components of the company and stakeholder engagement
Requirements
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant subject
- Experience with, and passion for, Energy, Decarbonization, and Sustainability
- 10+ years of work experience with a demonstrated track record in start-up or early-stage companies
- Technical knowledge in the areas of carbon and sustainability
- Experience managing leaders and leading teams, performance management, hiring, and firing
- An understanding of partnership and investments, and M&A
- Ability to lead distributed, remote teams – The team works currently remotely, occasionally meeting in Houston or New York offices, and where the customers are.
- Experience communicating business plans to boards or fundraising from VCs
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder environments in a consensus-driven culture
- Ability to collaborate well with all levels in the organization and the sponsoring company
- Ability to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced, fluid environment
- Self-starter with an ability to spread energy and enthusiasm across the team
- Ability and desire to work successfully within small, unstructured teams
- A willingness to do what it takes to make ventures successful – there is no job too big or too small
