This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Crisis Worker based in United States.
This role provides critical, life-saving support to LGBTQ+ young people through real-time crisis intervention via phone, chat, and text platforms. It sits at the heart of a mission-driven environment focused on suicide prevention, emotional safety, and affirming care. In addition to delivering direct counseling services, the role includes providing real-time peer support to other crisis counselors during high-risk situations. You will also contribute to operational quality through case reviews, monitoring, and administrative coordination. The position requires strong emotional resilience, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and effective in highly sensitive situations. It is both deeply human and highly structured, combining frontline impact with leadership in crisis response practices.
Accountabilities:
- Provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention counseling to LGBTQ+ young people nationwide via phone, text, and chat platforms.
- Deliver real-time peer support and mentoring to other crisis counselors during active high-risk engagements.
- Monitor ongoing crisis conversations and provide immediate guidance, feedback, and emotional support to staff and volunteers.
- Support training and onboarding activities, including listen-ins, chat/text observations, and coaching of new counselors.
- Manage queue flow by receiving or redirecting transferred conversations in coordination with leadership.
- Complete administrative duties such as case documentation, audits, quality assurance reviews, and database updates.
- Engage with third parties (e.g., law enforcement or child welfare agencies) when required for imminent safety concerns, following strict protocols.
- Maintain adherence to service standards, performance metrics, and operational procedures while contributing to continuous improvement efforts.
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field, or equivalent professional crisis experience (5+ years minimum).
- Prior experience in crisis intervention, suicide prevention, or high-acuity mental health support environments.
- Demonstrated ability to provide peer leadership, coaching, or mentoring in real-time crisis settings.
- Strong communication, active listening, and de-escalation skills in high-pressure situations.
- Deep understanding of LGBTQ+ identities and the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ youth.
- Proven emotional resilience, self-awareness, and ability to maintain composure during critical incidents.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities including live support, documentation, and administrative tasks.
- Reliable high-speed internet connection and a private, quiet remote work environment.
