Principal Product Manager - Workflow Automation, Flexible Platform
Job Description
Why We Need You
As Principal Product Manager for Workflow Automation, you'll be part of the Flexible Platform group, helping lead PagerDuty through a highly strategic transformation from a pure product to a platform. PagerDuty is transitioning from a set of products to a platform that consists of a set of configurable, flexible building blocks that can be leveraged to manage a variety of real-time work and real-time workflows. With that, we are increasing our engagement with partners integrating other tools with PagerDuty, consultants building bespoke solutions, and customers customizing the platform and creating deeper integrations to fit specific environments and specific workflows. Come help us kick off our second year of the new Flexible Platform group, which consists of several product development teams who are building the future building blocks of the new PagerDuty Platform.
Last March, PagerDuty acquired Catalytic, a low-code, no-code visual workflow builder that empowers "citizen developers" (no-code developers) to spin up automations in minutes that automate a variety of manual, repetitive, and mundane work processes across the entire enterprise, including teams like HR, Legal, Finance, Sales, Customer Service, Dev, IT, and others. With our recent launch of Incident Workflows, we've integrated Catalytic's core technology into the PagerDuty Platform, automating repetitive work for on-call responders during major incident response.
We need a Principal Product Manager who can join us and help launch PagerDuty Workflow Automation, that enables our customers to better manage a variety of different types of real-time urgent work; both in Software and IT Operations and a variety of other functions across the landscape of Digital Operations.Â
In this role, you’ll provide leadership across several development teams, including the Catalytic development teams (Flexible Workflows and Flexible Actions), and work to define and build a set of platform building blocks to manage real-time work and workflows. The Flexible Platform group works closely with other product development teams internally who will leverage these building blocks to build and ship new products. We’ll also work closely with customers and partners to better understand their needs as it comes to platform flexibility, extensibility, and customizability. Our larger, more sophisticated customers, in particular, are asking for a high level of customizability in terms of how they manage a variety of real-time work – such as: postmortems, service/change requests, provisioning/configuring new infrastructure, helping customer service teams respond faster to customer-impacting outages, helping HR automate employee onboarding/off-boarding, and much more!Â
The ideal candidate
You bridge the world of technical APIs, Platform, and Go-to-Market. You're equally comfortable discussing the merits of an API structure with engineers, writing a SQL query to go and get data to answer a key product question, building a business case for a new project, and defending it in front of our leadership team. You actively use your own products on a day-to-day basis and have demo accounts ready to visualize your vision to customers. You have your core product metrics at the tips of your fingers and speak the language of our customers when it comes to the problems they're experiencing and how they think about the ROI and value prop for your products. You like working in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, and are willing to roll up your sleeves and do what's needed to make your teams and products successful. You're scrappy, have an entrepreneurial mindset, and get shit done.Â
What you'll do
- Craft your 2-3 year vision and roadmap for Workflow Automation and lead the team to success
- Present your vision and product at conferences, company all hands, to large Enterprise customers, and even to the PagerDuty Board!
- Write PR FAQS ("Press Release FAQs", learn more about what these are via Amazon's Working Backwards) for new projects and lead PR FAQ discussionsÂ
- Partner closely with design and engineering throughout all stages of design and product development
- Prioritize feedback from product development teams, professional services, field teams, and other 3rd-party developers who use your Building Blocks
- Work directly with our go-to-market teams on supporting existing Workflow Automation customers and codifying our land, upsell, and expand motionsÂ
- Work with pricing, packaging, and billing on new pricing for Workflow Automation
- Support product marketing throughout our new product introduction process, including helping gather, refine, and generate: customer case studies, positioning, messaging, field enablement, battle cards, etc. You work closely with PMM and do what it takes to make our sales team and customers successful with your products
- Work closely with other internal product development teams on making them successful building new features on your Building Blocks
- Competitive analysis and market researchÂ
- Product data analysis, SQL, and dashboards for your products (when needed)
Basic Requirements
- 7-10+ years of product management or engineering experience for a SaaS or enterprise software company preferably with B2B applications.Prior software engineering experience is preferred.Â
- Strong knowledge of platform architecture, APIs, understanding of cross-application business processes and flows, and platform best practices.
- You're able to have deep technical conversations with engineering, follow along, and contribute in a meaningful way.
- Comfortable experimenting with 3rd party APIs, designing APIs based on RESTful principles, and collaborating on integration solution design, and comfortable writing SQL to get access to data to make informed product decisions.
- You strongly empathize with customers. You can sit down with users and understand the ways that your product is not satisfying their needs.Comfortable speaking and presenting directly to large Enterprise customers and executives.Â
- Bachelor's in Engineering, Computer Science, technical related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Prior experience in software engineering is highly preferred
