As a Principal Engineer, you will partner with the software engineering teams and leaders in the end user experience space to create technical solutions for complex problems involving architecture, strategy, collaboration, and big data. This is a principal software engineering role, and while technical leadership is a significant part of the role, you will not lead other engineers. Along with the other engineers, you will work to powerfully move forward the development, application architecture, and strategy of systems critical to Pluralsight's priorities.

What you'll own:

• You will be responsible for the stewardship of the bounded contexts and systems owned by the teams, while developing a proven understanding of how the systems work with other bounded contexts and the overall system architecture.
• You will help the team collaborate and responsibly respond to the needs of other teams and the overall system.
• You will help research and identify better ways to solve problems including the identification and use of industry trends, improving application architecture and improving ways of working.
• You will work with other leaders and Product Managers in your area of the business to discover, plan and strategize and prioritize around the most impactful work to be done

Experience you'll need:

• You have demonstrated the skills of a high-proficiency, senior engineer.
• You have a broad understanding of many technologies and how they could best be used at Pluralsight. You are aware of industry trends and how they might be applied to create simple solutions for complex problems.
• You have shown a dedication to and passion for Pluralsight's values and Pluralsight engineering practices in the way you work and engage with others.
• You are able to exercise independent judgment in choosing methods, techniques, and approaches for obtaining results.
• You understand and can navigate complex issues around application performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
• You have demonstrated leadership skills in your ability to inspire others and lead teams to success.
• You have demonstrated that you are a strong collaborator, a trusted teammate, and are skilled at resolving conflict.
• You have demonstrated success leveraging data streaming technologies and the processing/aggregation of data sourced from real-time streams.

• 8 years of related or equivalent experience; or 6+ years with an advanced degree.
• You have proven skills of a high-proficiency, senior engineer.
• Passionate about data, innovation, and using technology to unlock the future.
• Experience building software with Javascript and Node/React; TypeScript a bonus.
• Solid understanding of relational databases (Postgres), and other types of data stores a bonus
• You have experience crafting and building public or shared APIs
• Can provide architectural, strategic, and scale recommendations for both frontend and backend development
• Ability and willingness to work with multiple tech stacks simultaneously
• You have experience delivering software frequently, and building robust deployment pipelines.
• You understand and can navigate sophisticated issues around application performance, reliability, scalability, security, and data integrity.
• Good communication skills, ability to partner with product and design, and collaborate on multi-functional teams
• You have experience mentoring others.
• You have shown you are a strong collaborator, a trusted teammate, and are skilled at resolving and working through different ideas.
• You have the ability to discuss sophisticated topics with both technical and non-technical audiences
