Principal Systems Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure

Job Summary

The Principal System Engineer will lead project teams for large IT infrastructure initiatives. This role will establish direction and help implement technologies for new and existing systems architectures. In addition, this position will work directly with the Architects for the design of functional solutions and be accountable for road mapping and the delivery of the solution. This position will lead planned monthly IT maintenance events and will also mentor and coach team members.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Bring deep knowledge and experience to IT infrastructure projects
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using tools such as Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates, Terraform, or similar technologies to enable consistent and repeatable infrastructure deployments.
• Drive automation initiatives to streamline provisioning, configuration management, monitoring, and scaling of Azure resources and services.
• Contribute to ongoing CI/CD automation process improvement reviews using Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics to eliminate errors, maximize hardware/software efficiencies and increase service up-time
• Develop, document and execute CI/CD automation processes involving CI/CD pipelines on Azure cloud platforms,  infrastructure as code, end-to-end automation across layers of cloud-based network functions.
• Participate on project teams for large IT infrastructure initiatives and periodically take on a project lead role
• Define and update documentation for new and existing application and systems architectures
• Define and perform lifecycle maintenance plans for production software and related equipment
• Act as technical escalation point for complex support issues
• Lead planned monthly IT maintenance events (ex, system patching)
• Write business correspondence for recommendations, project support, and customer service purposes
• Work with Project Managers to develop project scopes, estimates, milestones, and timelines
• Implement and maintain computer systems to meet the organization’s current and future requirements
• Provide daily administration and oversight of enterprise server, virtualization, and storage systems
• Proactively identify, analyze, and resolve system problems and computer resource allocation
• Serve as a subject matter expert and technical consultant on projects assigned
• Maintain project plans and documentation of system and network builds and modifications
• Research, identify, and evaluate new products and services within the IT field
• Provide technical assistance and mentoring to technical team members to increase skill sets and understanding
• Interact and coordinate with vendors, suppliers, distributors, and contract consultants
• Have an excellent working knowledge of the current industry standard server operating systems and major productivity suite applications
• Responsible for development and documentation of corporate policies and procedures as related to system and network use
• Stay aware of emerging and evolving technologies to assist in setting strategic direction of the core service offerings for the organization
• Work with the team to identify and implement the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the company
• Manage cloud environments in accordance with company security guidelines
• Work directly with the Architects for the design of functional solutions and be accountable for road mapping and the delivery of the solution
• Mentor and coach others and provide input on performance evaluations
• Ownership over the delivery of multiple, complex business facing technologies (ecosystem) to deliver business outcomes
• Significant, senior-level interactions with key clients and stakeholders
• Provide technical subject matter expertise on multiple, concurrent complex projects
• Strategize with business and technology stakeholders to define future-state business capabilities & requirements, and translate into transitional and target state architectures
• Provide support to management on build vs buy decisions

Experience & Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree (preferred emphasis in Computer Science or MIS) or equivalent experiences
• 10+ years of experience in System, Virtualization, and Storage Engineering
• Experience with SOA applications and cloud-based services, preferably AWS or Azure
• Thorough knowledge on Active Directory Administration and Management
• Expertise using PowerShell to manage Servers, infrastructure, and applications
• Expertise with scripting and programming
• Expertise in designing, configuring, and management of hyper converged infrastructure (HCI) and converged environments
• Solid technical background in server support on a Microsoft Windows network
• Solid technical background in network support with switches, routers, firewalls, and application delivery controllers
• Cloud Certification, and/or OpenStack Administrator Certification
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as ARM templates, Terraform, or similar technologies.
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python) for automating cloud-related tasks
• Expertise in designing and managing all aspects of Microsoft Active Directory
• Knowledge of ITIL and Industry best practices
• Disaster Recovery and BCP experience
• Experience in distributed data center model
• Experience with automated monitoring tools
• Experience with collaboration software
