We’re Looking For A: Procurement Sourcing Buyer who will be responsible for various packaging projects starting at project initiation through production. Projects will consist of modifications of packaging for existing products as well as the packaging for new products. This includes sourcing, identification, specification development, line trials at co-man level, sample procurement, sizing trials, product documentation, cost-reduced packaging, etc.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Perform a wide range of purchasing and related operations service needs
  • Maintain the supplier database, purchase records, and related documentation
  • Assist in the review of market data to analyze and negotiate pricing, evaluate vendors and identify methods of reducing costs and or increasing services
  • Assist in the research of supply sources and recommend changes in products or services when appropriate
  • Ensure procured items meet the required quality standards and specifications
  • Coordinate CAD designs with packaging vendors for new projects working closely with the Product Development department and vendors to assure they meet manufacturing, quality, regulatory and customer expectations.
  • Work with the Product Development department to implement packaging improvement ideas.
  • Develop and organize proper documentation for specification systems for packaging.
  • Responsible for creating and executing a strategic sourcing strategy to include approved primary and secondary vendors, MOQ pricing and all service level requirements. 
  • Audit existing packaging materials for uniformity, quality, conformance, quantities, etc.
  • Develop ideas for savings, innovation, and quality improvements that are relevant to the product(s) and business.
  • Assists in various projects related to packaging (graphics, etc.)
  • Maintaining packaging specifications and graphics ensuring accessibility and control of packaging assets.
  • Visit vendor locations, as needed, to examine ongoing packaging projects to ensure conformance to project requirements.
  • Provide technical support to Marketing, Quality Assurance, Materials.
  • Research invoice or purchase order issues as needed by Accounts Payable and Accounting Depts
  • Identify cost savings opportunities and maintain the tracking of company savings initiatives
  • Maintain and strengthen two-way communication with suppliers to ensure challenges and issues receive appropriate and timely response and resolution
  • Proactively make well-reasoned recommendations in a changing environment

  • Minimum of 3 -5 years of work experience working with plant operations and packaging supply chain from concept to production for multiple products.
  • Experience and strong working knowledge of a wide variety of packaging materials, automated packaging equipment, and processing equipment.
  • Proficiency in researching and developing state of the art packages through experimental design, package testing methodology, and through previous commercialization experience.
  • Proficient with MS Office, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • 5-7 years of work experience working with plant operations and packaging supply chain from concept to production for multiple products.
  • Experience in food/supplement/cosmetics and pet food or other CPG preferred with familiarity with high speed processes is desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or related field
