SUMMARY

As a Product Manager for the Analytics, Reporting and Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) key service areas, you will bridge the needs of the VUE business to product implementation with our agile development teams. In this important role, you will be responsible for providing vision and direction to the agile development team throughout the development process. Ideally this is done through understanding and representing the needs and demands of the customers to the agile development teams through roadmap planning, backlog management, iteration planning, and elaboration of the user stories and requirements.

SCOPE AND IMPACT OF JOB

As a Product Manager, you will create and improve products that provide breathtaking high stakes testing service to VUE customers. You will be responsible for owning a set of products, understanding customer and stakeholder needs, define product development roadmaps in support of the business and technology strategy, own and sustain the product backlog, prioritize product requests, and collaborate constantly with clients, all internal stakeholders and agile development teams.

In this role, you will be responsible for holistically understanding the market environment for Analytics, Reporting and AI/ML, being a voice for thought leadership in our industry and working together with our internal teams to develop a future vision for Pearson VUE's Analytics, Reporting and AI/ML. This role will partner with development, operations and other cross-functional teams to execute this vision. You will both manage Pearson VUE's portfolio of Analytics, Reporting and AI/ML products and advise other product teams on how to leverage our data to make smarter decisions.

PREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED) KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Analytics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, AI/ML disciplines or equivalent technical work experience.
  • Seasoned IT or Business professional with a minimum of 5-7 years product management, consulting, customer management, analytics, AI/ML and/or technology implementations.
  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence platforms, analytics, data science, data structures and/or AI/ML technologies (Microsoft Azure technologies preferred).
  • Extensive experience with requirement elicitation, requirements documentation, and requirements management.
  • Direct customer interface experience (working with clients directly on project tasks; managing client expectations).
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new business domains and technical applications.
  • Familiarity with software development of forecasting, clustering, decision trees and other analytic models and methods.
  • Experience in computer-based testing, certification, and licensing industry preferred

  • Voice of Customer (VOC) - understanding customer challenges through first-hand discussions and translating these into clearly understandable problems for development teams to solve.
  • Road mapping - develops 'evergreen' multi-year product plans with roadmaps created from input from customers, technology teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Can map out existing processes and re-imagine a future state that changes the process map to solve customer pain points in alternative and creative ways.
  • Results-focused with an ability to resolve a wide range of issues in creative ways.
  • Works on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends.
  • Seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of the area of specialization.
  • Recommends improvements to policies and established procedures.
  • Strong technical thinking, analytical, and conceptualization skills.
  • Ability to provide technical alternatives, recommend solutions, and participate in implementation.
  • Ability to assimilate information and distill knowledge within time constraints.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 45% Product Ownership - Backlog and Product Release Planning
    • Manages the end to end product management lifecycle for the Analytics, Reporting & AI/ML product portfolio
    • Manages an enhancement request process to identify work of high business value.
    • Creates and maintains a product backlog reflecting both value and business and technology strategy.
    • Prioritizes work for a product engineering team.
    • Works with business and product engineering leadership to quantify the benefits and understand how to prioritize enhancements.
    • Conveys goals and product requirements for enhancements and new development.
    • Uses various input and analysis to report progress against goals.
    • With Business Analysts, assists with the elaboration of the user stories.
    • Participates in agile work planning meetings and retrospectives.
  • 45% Product Planning - VOC, Roadmaps, Product Visions, Customer Engagement
    • Conduct Voice of Customer market and internal research to deeply understand stakeholder needs
    • Develops and maintains the Product Roadmap for assigned portfolio area
    • Creates product vision for new product initiatives.
    • Coordinates release planning with other Product Leader and other Product Managers for cross-product initiatives.
    • Works with Product Leader to translate high level strategy product direction into work breakdown and prioritization for the backlog.
    • Works with VUE Customer Experience team to develop personas supporting usability and user-centered design.
    • Collaborates with the Business Solutions team during pre-sale activities and convert client launch requirements into backlog items.
    • Represents the product roadmap to Clients.
    • Represents VUE in industry conferences, gather competitive intel and new market needs.
  • 10% Mentoring and Team Support
    • Represents the business to the engineering team; answer questions and provides direction.
    • Represents the product to the internal stakeholders; answers questions about the product and provides inputs to our operational support roles.

    Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

    The minimum full-time salary range is between $80,000 - $115,000.
