This role offers the opportunity to play a central part in the pre-award phase of clinical research projects, ensuring that budgets and proposals are accurate, comprehensive, and aligned with project objectives. As a Project Scoping and Budgeting Specialist, you will work closely with cross-functional teams including Business Development, Operations, and third-party vendors to define project requirements, develop financial plans, and support contracting processes. Your work directly influences project feasibility, operational readiness, and sponsor satisfaction. This position thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment where precision, collaboration, and clear communication are essential. You will manage multiple proposals and budgets simultaneously, contributing to the successful execution of early-phase clinical research studies.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and manage early-phase clinical research budgets, including initial and revised proposals, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Evaluate RFPs and protocols to identify technical specifications, deliverables, assumptions, and key service requirements
  • Consult with internal subject matter experts to define project-specific requirements and pricing for non-standard activities
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and subcontractors throughout the scoping and budgeting process
  • Map budgets to sponsor formats, manage revisions, and support bid defense meetings and project alignment calls
  • Submit project-specific documents to legal and oversee the budget through the contracting process
  • Serve as a point of contact for sponsor inquiries regarding budget and operational strategy
  • Requirements:

    • BA/BS in business, finance, life sciences, or equivalent education and experience
    • 3–5 years of experience in early-phase clinical research, including protocol review and budget generation
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage cross-functional teams
    • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage deadlines efficiently
    • Experience with clinical trial proposal processes and budget development
    • Proficiency in Excel and other tools used for budgeting and financial planning
    • Detail-oriented mindset with strong organizational and analytical skills
