Public Relations Specialist
Job Description
At Lightspeed Systems we are on a mission to protect students and we want the world to know. We’re looking for an organized and talented Public Relations Specialist to execute our public relations plan, ensure our name is in lights, and support our organic web traffic results.
In this role, you’ll report to the Director of Corporate Marketing but also work with senior management to amplify the Lightspeed story throughout the education sector and beyond.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Engage with media: Execute media relations strategy in education, safety, and IT trades and in strategic local markets through productive relationships and reliable execution. Pitch pre-written articles, new story ideas, interviews and more to targeted media outlets.
- Identify new opportunities: Identify opportunities for contributed articles, interviews, etc based on editorial calendars, current events, market trends, etc.
- Prepare spokespeople for interviews: Coordinate interviews, talking points, briefing materials, etc for all media interactions, ensuring Lightspeed spokespeople are well-prepared to represent Lightspeed.
- Write materials: Write compelling assets including press releases, news advisories, speaker bios, contributed articles, product/company listings, and award submissions that marry Lightspeed objectives and the interests of relevant media outlets.
- Assist with social media: Support the Director of Corporate Marketing with social media execution including writing content, posting, monitoring comments, and providing pre-written templates to employees for further amplification.
- Track results: Maintain records on media coverage including frequency, sentiment, and goal alignment. Understand how coverage is impacting web traffic and which strategies are having the most positive impact so we can do more of that!
- Support the team: Roll up your sleeves as our evolving needs require! This is likely to include proofreading marketing materials and administrative support.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE
- 1-2 years of experience, including relevant internships
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills to inspire trust and confidence from reporters and Lightspeed executives
- Spidey-senses that are well tuned for story angles and opportunities
- Flexibility and adaptability are easy for you as you go in and out of independence and collaboration
- Adept in a fast-paced environment and comfortable juggling multiple projects and priorities
