REGISTERED NURSE – DISCHARGE LOUNGE (FULL-TIME) Shift:Monday – Friday | 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM No Weekends | No Holidays Location:Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, a proud member of the MediSys Health Network Salary:$53.17/hour + Differentials and Full Benefits Benefits:Full 1199 SEIU Union Benefits Package Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and experiencedRegistered Nurse (RN)for ourDischarge Lounge Unit. This role is ideal for RNs who are dedicated to improving patient flow and enhancing the discharge experience. TheDischarge Loungeis a specialized area where medically cleared patients wait comfortably while final discharge details—such as medications, paperwork, or transportation—are completed. The goal is to improve hospital efficiency and patient satisfaction by freeing up inpatient beds and providing a more relaxed discharge environment. Key Responsibilities • Monitor and support patients awaiting final discharge. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (pharmacy, transport, case management) to ensure timely discharges. • Provide education and discharge instructions to patients and families. • Ensure patient comfort with access to snacks, beverages, blankets, and entertainment. • Maintain clear communication with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient status. • Utilize Epic EMR for documentation and discharge coordination. REQUIREMENTS • Active RN license in New York State. • Graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred). • 1+ years of acute care experience, especially in Med/Surg or similar settings. • Experience with the discharge process and patient flow coordination preferred. CERTIFICATIONS: • BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required • PALS or NRP – Preferred depending on prior unit experience SKILLS: • Strong IV skills • Proficiency in Epic or similar EMR systems • Excellent communication and patient education abilities • High level of compassion, empathy, and professionalism • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $53.18 per hour Expected hours: 37.5 per week Benefits: • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Paid time off • Vision insurance Application Question(s): • Do you have at least one year of recent acute care RN experience (preferably in Med/Surg or a similar inpatient setting), and have you been directly involved in patient discharges or flow coordination • Are you currently certified in BLS and ACLS, proficient in Epic (or a comparable EMR), and confident in patient education and IV administration?
