This remote Sales Tax Accountant role sits within a fast-growing, fully distributed finance team focused on delivering end-to-end sales tax compliance services for a diverse client portfolio.
You will play a key role in helping businesses reduce complexity and risk related to multi-state sales tax obligations.
The role combines hands-on accounting work, client communication, and operational problem-solving in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
You will manage filings, review tax data accuracy, and support clients through notices, audits, and other state-level requirements.
It is ideal for someone detail-oriented who enjoys structured processes while also improving workflows and tools over time.
You will work independently while collaborating closely with a supportive remote team operating across multiple time zones.

Accountabilities:

  • Prepare, review, and submit monthly sales tax filings across multiple clients while ensuring accuracy and compliance with state requirements.
  • Monitor discrepancies between tax collected and actual liability, investigating variances and coordinating corrective actions with clients.
  • Support resolution of time-sensitive issues such as state notices, audits, late filings, and account corrections with tax authorities when needed.
  • Assist with special projects including amended returns, backfiling work, audits, and client account updates across jurisdictions.
  • Maintain and improve internal documentation, workflows, and operational processes to enhance efficiency and consistency.
  • Serve as the primary ongoing point of contact for assigned clients, ensuring clear communication and timely updates on all matters.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge in sales tax and accounting tools to improve service quality and professional growth.
  • Requirements:

    • 1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience with a solid understanding of core accounting principles.
    • Experience managing multiple clients or concurrent workstreams with strong organizational skills.
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies and resolve complex data issues.
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with confidence in client-facing interactions.
    • Ability to work independently in a remote setting with reliable high-speed internet.
    • Bonus: familiarity with US sales tax or CPA certification.
    • Benefits:

      • Annual compensation of 59,500 USD.
      • 43 days of paid time off annually, including holidays and PTO.
      • 3 additional paid volunteer days per year for nonprofit engagement.
      • 100% employer-paid health, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance.
      • 99% employer-paid dental and vision insurance coverage.
      • 401(k) plan with generous employer matching contributions.
      • Fully remote work with structured core hours from 11 AM to 4 PM EST.
      • Eligibility for profit-sharing program after the first year, subject to requirements.
      • Continuous learning opportunities, training programs, and education reimbursement support.
