This role is a key finance position supporting complex, mission-driven operations with a strong focus on U.S. Government (USG) contract accounting and research program funding. The Senior Accountant ensures accuracy and compliance across financial reporting, invoicing, and cost allocations while playing a central role in month-end close and budgeting activities. Working closely with program, finance, and R&D teams, the role helps translate operational activity into precise financial insights that support decision-making and regulatory compliance. It also contributes directly to audit readiness and the integrity of grant-funded program reporting. The environment is fast-paced, detail-oriented, and highly collaborative, requiring strong ownership and analytical rigor. This position is well suited for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in structured, compliance-driven environments with meaningful public impact.

Accountabilities:

  • Prepare monthly U.S. Government (USG) invoices, including reconciliations, labor distribution analysis, and general ledger review to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes by maintaining accurate financial records, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Program Controls, and R&D teams to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and staffing cost projections.
  • Maintain financial models and assist with monthly R&D financial reporting, ensuring consistency between actuals, forecasts, and planning tools.
  • Develop and validate labor distribution reports using payroll and timekeeping data to support accurate cost allocations and invoicing requirements.
  • Compile and review supporting documentation from financial systems and vendors to ensure completeness of USG billing packages.
  • Support internal and external audits, including Uniform Guidance and incurred cost submissions, by preparing schedules and required documentation.
  • Monitor and review timesheet coding accuracy, resolving discrepancies in collaboration with staff and management.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting structures in NetSuite, including fund code creation and system data integrity.
  • Identify opportunities to improve, streamline, and automate financial reporting and accounting processes using modern finance tools.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
    • 9+ years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial exposure to U.S. Government contract accounting.
    • Strong knowledge of federal contracting requirements, cost principles, invoicing standards, and compliance frameworks.
    • Experience supporting research, development, or grant-funded programs strongly preferred.
    • Proficiency with ERP systems such as NetSuite (including NetSuite Planning & Budgeting) or similar platforms.
    • Familiarity with payroll and timekeeping systems such as Paylocity and ClickTime.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, along with strong overall digital literacy.
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail in a compliance-driven environment.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across finance and program teams.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive annual salary range of $88,000–$112,000
      • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
      • Flexible spending accounts (FSA) and related pre-tax benefit options
      • Employer-paid life insurance and disability coverage
      • Flexible vacation policy, sick leave, and paid holidays (including year-end break)
      • 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching contributions
      • Remote-first work structure within the United States
      • Strong focus on work-life balance and employee well-being
