Senior Backend Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer based in the United States.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned backend engineer to build and scale secure, high-performance systems that power identity verification and account protection solutions. You will take ownership of critical backend services, APIs, databases, and authentication workflows while helping shape the technical architecture of a fast-growing platform. Working within a collaborative, remote-first engineering team, you'll partner closely with product and design to deliver reliable, customer-focused features. • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that support identity verification, authentication, account recovery, and security workflows.
• Own database architecture, schema design, migrations, query optimization, and data integrity to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
• Build secure authentication, authorization, and data protection mechanisms while maintaining high standards for system reliability and correctness.
• Contribute to architectural decisions, technical roadmaps, and backend engineering best practices that support long-term platform scalability.
• Partner with product and design teams to deliver intuitive, secure, and high-quality customer-facing features and internal tools.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues while continuously improving performance, observability, deployment processes, and system resilience.
• Participate in code reviews, mentor fellow engineers, and promote engineering excellence through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Support cross-functional initiatives by contributing across the technology stack when needed and integrating backend systems with external services and applications.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience designing, building, and operating production backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Node.js, Go, Python, Java, or similar technologies.
• Proven experience designing scalable APIs and backend services for customer-facing or high-scale enterprise applications.
• Strong expertise with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and modern backend infrastructure.
• Solid understanding of authentication, authorization, identity management, security principles, fraud prevention, or related domains.
• Familiarity with modern frontend technologies such as React, Vue, or similar frameworks is a plus.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and technical decision-making skills, with the ability to thrive in a remote, high-ownership engineering environment.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
