Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) based in Italy.

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Ruby and the latest Ruby on Rails framework.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to review specifications, estimate delivery timelines, and define technical implementation strategies.
• Take ownership of features throughout the development lifecycle, including architecture, coding, testing, code reviews, deployment, and maintenance.
• Build reliable and high-performance services using PostgreSQL, Redis, Hotwire, Turbo, Stimulus, and Tailwind CSS.
• Participate in architectural discussions, proposing scalable and maintainable technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Work closely with engineering, product, SRE, and data teams to deliver high-quality software that serves millions of users.
• Continuously improve code quality, development processes, and engineering best practices while contributing to technical innovation.
• Explore and experiment with new technologies and AI-driven solutions to enhance products and engineering workflows.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional experience as a backend or full-stack software engineer.
• Strong expertise in Ruby and Ruby on Rails within production environments.
• Experience building and scaling products serving thousands or millions of active users.
• Background working in fast-paced startups, scale-ups, or similarly agile technology companies.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, Redis, and modern web application architecture.
• Experience with Hotwire (Turbo and Stimulus), Tailwind CSS, or similar frontend technologies is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills with full professional English proficiency.
• Strong sense of ownership with the ability to independently drive projects from concept to production.
• User-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality product experiences.
• Comfortable balancing software craftsmanship with rapid product delivery.
• Interest or experience in AI, machine learning, NLP, MLOps, or data science is a plus.
• Experience collaborating with globally distributed remote teams is advantageous.
• Comfortable working on AI products that may include uncensored or NSFW-generated content in accordance with platform policies.
