Accountabilities

As a Senior Software Engineer focused on accessibility, you will help design, develop, and maintain critical components that enable accessible web experiences. You will collaborate across engineering, product, and design teams to improve platform capabilities while contributing to a global open-source ecosystem.

  • Improve the architecture, stability, performance, and reliability of accessibility-focused browser technologies.
  • Develop, test, and maintain complex C++ code within a large-scale, multi-process, multi-threaded codebase.
  • Debug and resolve platform-specific issues across different operating systems.
  • Build infrastructure that enables assistive technologies to interact effectively with modern web applications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and design teams to identify and address accessibility challenges.
  • Contribute to web standards and technical solutions that expand access to emerging web technologies.
  • Create prototypes, technical specifications, tests, and data-driven improvements based on user feedback.
  • Participate actively in open development practices and engage with a worldwide technical community.
  • Requirements:

    The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with strong systems programming skills and a passion for building accessible technology. You should be comfortable working with complex codebases, collaborating remotely, and solving challenging technical problems.

    • Degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
    • Strong proficiency in C++ development.
    • Experience with multi-process and multi-threaded programming environments.
    • Knowledge of web accessibility principles, including ARIA standards.
    • Understanding of JavaScript, web technologies, and modern web applications.
    • Experience developing cross-platform native applications.
    • Strong debugging, analytical thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to quickly understand and contribute to large, complex, multi-language codebases.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively within geographically distributed engineering teams.
