As a Senior Software Engineer, Linux Kernel, you will contribute to the development of high-performance networking software by building and maintaining advanced Linux kernel capabilities for enterprise-scale systems. Working alongside experienced software and hardware engineers, you will help drive innovation across kernel architecture, CPU enablement, and system performance while collaborating with the open-source Linux community. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex technical initiatives from design through deployment, influence future product capabilities, and solve challenging systems-level problems. You'll work in a collaborative engineering environment that values technical excellence, ownership, and continuous learning while developing software that powers mission-critical infrastructure worldwide.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Linux kernel features, ensuring reliability, scalability, and high performance across networking platforms.
  • Monitor upstream Linux kernel developments, evaluate emerging technologies, and identify opportunities to integrate new capabilities into future releases.
  • Design, implement, and maintain kernel functionality using C, with additional development in C++ and Python where appropriate.
  • Build automated testing frameworks and validation tools to verify new kernel features and ensure software quality.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering teams and technology vendors to evaluate, qualify, and integrate new CPUs, network interface controllers, and other kernel-dependent hardware.
  • Contribute kernel enhancements back to the upstream Linux community by participating in open-source development and patch submission processes.
  • Support kernel integration efforts across software releases while providing technical leadership on complex engineering projects.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve software issues identified through internal testing, customer deployments, and technical support teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers by sharing technical expertise, reviewing code, and promoting engineering best practices.
  • Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with at least 8 years of experience; or a Master's degree with 6+ years of experience; or a PhD with 3+ years of experience; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
    • Extensive professional experience developing software in C, with working knowledge of C++ and Python.
    • Proven expertise developing, debugging, and maintaining Linux kernel code in production environments.
    • Strong understanding of Linux kernel architecture, design principles, and implementation.
    • Experience contributing to or working with the upstream Linux kernel development community and familiarity with its patch submission process.
    • Solid knowledge of IP networking concepts, protocols, and network architecture.
    • Strong software design, debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
    • Experience building scalable, high-quality software following modern software engineering practices.
    • Familiarity with x86 and ARM processor architectures.
    • Excellent analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within highly technical engineering teams.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience mentoring engineers and driving technical initiatives.
    • Benefits

      • Competitive base salary ranging from $120,000 to $195,000 CAD, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
      • Eligibility for discretionary performance bonuses and equity awards, depending on the role.
      • Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
      • Wellbeing programs and income protection benefits.
      • Group Retirement Savings Plan.
      • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge Linux kernel and networking technologies.
      • Collaborative engineering culture focused on innovation, technical excellence, and career development.
