Toast is looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Android to join the Membership POS team in India. You'll play a key role in building the platform that manages subscriptions and memberships and tracks usage of member benefits for customers and guests—all within Toast’s ecosystem.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Work collaboratively with UX, PM, QA and other engineers building the POS for retail.
- Ensure quality by building automated testing for changes
- Be a driving force in the full software development lifecycle, from design and prototyping to deployment and maintenance
- Ensure robustness, performance, and reliability of the POS
- Provide technical guidance and support through code reviews and design discussions
- Work closely with the leads to identify high-impact opportunities
- Plan, scope and rapidly prototype solutions using a combination of web technologies
- Make technical decisions and recommendations that will lay the foundation for the future of our strategy
- Stay in tune with customer needs by participating in user interviews and research
- Roll* features out to customers, including monitoring for success
- Mentor and coach other engineers
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- 5+ years' prior experience developing and maintaining Android applications
- Highly proficient in all aspects of native Android development with Kotlin
- Experience building backend services and APIs is a plus.
- Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild
- Excellent cross-team communication skills on complex technical topics

Our Tech Stack
Toast’s products run on a stack that ranges from guest and restaurant-facing Android tablets to backend services in Java to internal, guest-facing and restaurant-facing web apps. Our backend services follow a microservice architecture written using Java 8 and DropWizard; we use AWS extensively, ranging from S3 to RDS to Lambda. We have our own platform for dealing with user management, service elevations and robust load balancing. Toast stores data in a set of sharded Postgres databases and utilizes Apache Spark for large scale data workloads including query and batch processing. The front-end is built primarily using React and ES6. The main Toast POS application is an Android application written in Java and Kotlin. For data between tablets and our cloud platform we operate RabbitMQ clusters as well as direct tablet communication to the back end.
