This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Underwriting Consultant, High Net Worth based in Canada.
This role sits within a highly specialized underwriting environment focused on high-net-worth clients, where precision, judgment, and customer-centric thinking are essential. You will assess complex life and financial risk cases, contributing directly to high-value underwriting decisions that shape customer outcomes at scale. The position combines technical underwriting expertise with strong relationship management across sales, operations, and head office teams. You will play a key role in delivering competitive, well-reasoned decisions while ensuring compliance with regulatory and risk frameworks. Working in a remote-first structure across Canada, you will collaborate with experienced professionals in a culture that values innovation, mentorship, and continuous learning. Accountabilities:
In this role, you will evaluate complex high-net-worth insurance applications while ensuring sound risk assessment, strong partner collaboration, and exceptional customer experience.
- Assess and classify complex life insurance risks in accordance with established underwriting philosophy, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Review high-net-worth applications and deliver competitive, well-structured underwriting decisions with significant financial authority
- Collaborate closely with sales, distribution, and head office teams to support business growth and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
- Ensure accurate interpretation of medical, financial, and lifestyle information to evaluate mortality and risk exposure
- Maintain compliance with legal, regulatory, and confidentiality standards, including anti-money laundering and disclosure requirements
- Identify process improvements and propose solutions to enhance underwriting efficiency and decision quality
- Participate in case discussions, referrals, and co-signing processes while supporting mentorship of less experienced underwriters
- Contribute to delivering a consistently high-quality customer and advisor experience across all interactions
- Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience, including exposure to high-net-worth markets
- Significant life underwriting authority (e.g., $5M+ signing authority preferred)
- Strong knowledge of medical underwriting concepts, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, diagnostics, and treatments
- Understanding of non-medical risk factors such as occupation, lifestyle, and avocations
- Experience interpreting financial documentation and exposure to anti-money laundering principles
- Strong relationship management and sales-oriented mindset with the ability to support business growth
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making abilities in complex cases
- Working toward or completion of professional designations such as FALU, FLMI, or ACS (preferred)
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively across teams
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset, depending on location
