Job Description Summary:

PayPal Invest organization is created to build an investment platform to power a consumer driven Investment product for stock trading. This product further pushes PayPal’s vision to democratize financial services for everyone. The goal is to enable responsible and education lead investing opportunities for the customers. This product will make PayPal, one of the largest broker dealers in North America, putting the product in the hands of ~150 million PayPal customers and then further expanding to international market later. This also emphasizes on the scale the platform needs to perform on, and the precision required to support high throughput trading needs. The core platform buildout would be in AWS cloud native stack. The build out is one of the first internal product to be powered by AWS cloud native engineering stack.
We believe in lean teams delivering a lot of value, so you will be part of a lean team potentially driving impact for the platform buildout from scratch. The team will be exposed to complex technology problems and will be exposed to technology like AWS cloud native services, GraphQL, High throughput SQL/key value/document stores, Cloud based services, exposure to other PayPal tech stack as part of the development process.
This also enables us to quickly iterate and do frequent brainstorming sessions welcoming new ideas and diverse perspectives to conceptualize new features. The Invest platform team is seeking candidates with a strong background in Java, Spring Boot and Java related frameworks working on AWS. As a technical lead, you will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to translate business requirements into clear functional specifications. You will design & build solutions to problems and guide other developers to do the same. Previous work on cloud native tools or platform teams would be an added advantage. We want candidates with a vision for how to empower customers by building delightful experiences. You should be familiar with the latest tools & practices popular in the Java community. We hope you’re passionate about these services and can help us make decisions about the ones that will work best for the platform. We’re looking for leaders to help move the company forward. The candidate should have great communication skills and experience of working with a distributed team. Experience contributing to open-source projects would come in handy, so would any kind of high-profile work with many contributors & customers. Responsibilities:

  • Work as full-time developer for the team.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision in a team to define, design, implement, test, release rollout and support software applications for PayPal.
  • Work with business units to crystallize business needs into product features.
  • Work with engineering managers, engineers & QA to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs w.r.t functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementations schedules and adherence to development goals and principles.
  • Develop new team capabilities to ensure continued competence and relevance in supporting software development needs of PayPal's business.
  • Define and devise processes, tools and methodologies to achieve excellence in software development, testing and deployment.
  • Follow the team processes like Agile etc.

Job Requirements:

  • BE in Computer Science or Engineering and 5+ years related industry experience Highly competent hands-on experience in the following:
  • Enterprise architecture/software design/implementation, particularly large-scale web-based systems. (J2EE)
  • Java programming in Linux/Unix environment
  • OO-based analysis and design
  • SOA / Web Services
  • MVC frameworks such as Spring along with Sprint boot
  • Software design and development methodologies, including Agile methods
  • Source Control (GIT experience is an advantage)
  • Unit testing frameworks such as JUnit, Google Test
  • Database design and optimization. (Oracle/MySQL)
  • Scripting Languages (Shell, Python, Perl) would be a plus
  • Jenkins/Hudson, Maven/Ant, RESTs experiences would be a plus
  • Understanding of core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices
  • Proficiency in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications using AWS
  • Ability to use the AWS service APIs, AWS CLI, and SDKs to write applications
  • Ability to identify key features of AWS services
  • Understanding of the AWS shared responsibility model
  • Highly analytical, innovative, and able to think strategically and to develop comprehensive detailed specifications.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to produce clear, concise communications and documentation.
  • Highly effective at working in cross-functional groups and getting results in matrix organizations.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities

  • Working knowledge of stock trading industry standards and practices preferred.
