Software Engineer

Roadie, a UPS Company, is a logistics management and crowdsourced delivery platform. Founded in 2014, Roadie offers businesses fast, flexible and asset-light logistics solutions for last-mile delivery. Roadie enables local delivery to more than 95% of U.S. households by providing access to more than 200,000 independent drivers nationwide – allowing businesses to offer their customers delivery optionality for almost any industry, from airlines to artisans.

The mission of the Data Science team at Roadie is to optimize automated decision-making across the organization by leveraging machine learning and operations research in concert–decisions at the heart of the business, including route creation, driver assignment, and pricing. We are looking for a Software Engineer to help our team develop, productionalize, and maintain these systems. This is a high impact opportunity to not only implement new features, but to work on near-greenfield projects that deliver direct impact for drivers, senders, and Roadie. The ideal engineer is someone with strong software design fundamentals, an interest in machine-learning or optimization algorithms, and a degree of comfort with creative destruction.

What You’ll Do

• Work closely with machine-learning engineers, operations researchers, and QA engineers to build, test, and scale systems performing automated decision making across the organization
• Collaborate with the broader Technology team to improve reliability of existing systems 
• Write and deliver reliable code through integration, test automation, and code reviews
• Apply experience and knowledge of industry best practices to support and continuously improve the performance, efficiency, and maintainability of existing applications

Technologies

• Languages: Primarily, Python. Experience with Go is a plus. 
• Data: Postgres, Redis, Kafka, Pinot, Redshift
• Infra & Devops: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, CircleCI

What You Bring

• 2+ years of software development experience
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent
• Experience working with machine learning algorithms and/or machine learning teams, preferred
• Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly
• Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Experience writing clean, stable and maintainable code in high-scale production environments
