What we are building

The Product Engineering / Data Science Practitioner (DSP) Engineering organization is developing the core features of our Domino platform that enables Data Scientists and Data Scientist Leaders to accelerate the lifecycle of machine learning model development. Each of our teams focus on a key problem area of the data science lifecycle to ensure our users can have a seamless experience. From developing and training models all the way through to publishing and hosting them in production, DSP engineers are building the core user-facing features that allow data science teams, our customers, to improve the speed, quality and impact of their models at scale.

The Data team at Domino is on a mission to make access to data, using the Domino platform, seamless and comprehensive such that data scientists can incorporate data into their workflows without worrying about how. We take satisfaction in making data access so ubiquitous that data scientists can derive insights and produce predictions knowing that they have the full availability of data, whether internal or external at their disposal for any scenario.

The team is currently made up of many strong engineers with a variety of different backgrounds. We have everything from new grads to senior engineers specializing in backend coding and architecture. We are particularly proud of our collaborative culture and our emphasis on building things the right way while maintaining a fast paced delivery timeline.

What your impact will be

As an Engineering Manager for the Data team you inherit an existing engineering team of seven. The team is equipped with additional resources of embedded QE, PM and UX. This role is focused on hands on technical management. Previous experience in product development as an individual contributor will play a key role in your success. 

In your first year, your impact will be:

• You will lead a team that works with data intensive applications and cutting edge big data systems to enable data scientists, at today’s largest enterprises, to build machine learning models
• Your team will get to solve the data access problem for the most complex and cultivated data science problems at scale
• Own a piece of the product and engineering roadmap
• Formulate opinions on how to improve velocity and exact actions to improve efficiencies
• Deliver the next set of Data Source integrations on our roadmap
• Ensure career roadmaps are on track for each of the team members and start hiring any missing pieces to fill out the team

What We Look For in This Role

• 2+ years in a People Management role; roles demonstrate increasing leadership scope
• 5+ years previously in a Backend Software Engineering individual contributor role
• End to end product development experience
• Technical Leadership; demonstrated experience architecting or leading engineering projects
• Interfacing with Kubernetes and cloud technologies like AWS and Azure using best-practice patterns
• It is a big plus if you have experience building data-intensive applications that are mission critical and delivering them with adherence to solid engineering principles conforming to scalability and observability best practices
