This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineering Manager - Select by DoiT based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to lead a talented engineering team building and scaling a modern cloud cost management platform.
You will shape technical strategy, influence product direction, and help create engineering practices that enable teams to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently.
Working closely with engineering, product, design, and leadership teams, you will drive execution while fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities:

The Software Engineering Manager will lead the engineering team responsible for developing and scaling a cloud cost management platform, ensuring technical excellence, effective execution, and strong team development.

  • Own the engineering roadmap and technical strategy, helping prioritize initiatives that improve product capabilities, scalability, and customer value.
  • Partner with engineers to design reliable, maintainable, and scalable solutions across application, data platforms, and infrastructure.
  • Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering decisions while balancing speed, quality, scalability, and long-term business needs.
  • Drive engineering best practices around code quality, testing, observability, reliability, documentation, and operational maturity.
  • Provide technical guidance across modern technologies including backend systems, data platforms, cloud-native services, and related engineering tools.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineers through coaching, feedback, career planning, and performance management.
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning within the engineering organization.
  • Partner with recruiting teams and leadership to attract, evaluate, and hire exceptional engineering talent.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Sales, and executive stakeholders to align technical execution with business priorities.
  • Improve engineering processes, delivery practices, and team effectiveness while identifying risks and removing operational blockers.
  • Champion reliability, incident response improvements, experimentation, and continuous optimization across engineering initiatives.
  • Requirements:

    The ideal candidate is an experienced engineering leader with a strong technical background, proven people management skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced technology environment.

    • 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
    • 2+ years of experience managing or leading software engineering teams.
    • Strong background in backend engineering, data modeling, and data-intensive applications.
    • Experience working with technologies such as Python, FastAPI, Postgres, dbt, Dagster, Snowflake, or similar modern platforms.
    • Ability to guide architectural decisions and influence technical direction without being the primary individual contributor.
    • Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver customer-focused outcomes.
    • Strong understanding of software development practices, engineering processes, and scalable system design.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with engineers, executives, and business stakeholders.
    • Comfortable working in an ambiguous, rapidly changing, and highly collaborative environment.
    • Strong leadership mindset with a focus on mentoring, team growth, and engineering excellence.
    • Nice-to-have experience:

      • Experience building SaaS products in startup or high-growth environments.
      • Background in FinOps, cloud cost management, cloud infrastructure, or data platform products.
      • Experience leading distributed or remote engineering teams.
      • Experience scaling teams, processes, and technology following rapid growth or organizational change.
