This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Specialist, Loan Quality Control (Underwriter) based in Canada.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of residential mortgage underwriting activities within a high-volume financial environment. You will review and assess loan files to confirm adherence to established underwriting standards and internal policies. The position is focused on quality control, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement of lending practices. You will analyze underwriting decisions, identify root causes of errors, and contribute to coaching and process enhancements. Working independently while collaborating with broader teams, you will help strengthen consistency and reliability across mortgage operations. This is a detail-oriented role suited to professionals who combine technical underwriting expertise with strong analytical thinking and sound judgment. Accountabilities
- Review and execute quality control assessments of residential mortgage underwriting files to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Analyze underwriting decisions and identify errors or inconsistencies, documenting root causes and contributing to corrective actions.
- Support the achievement of operational efficiency, accuracy, and service quality targets aligned with business objectives.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide feedback, coaching insights, and recommendations for underwriting improvements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process gaps and proposing practical solutions.
- Exercise independent judgment to assess, diagnose, and resolve underwriting-related issues within defined guidelines.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and consistency while managing assigned audits and reviews.
- 3–5 years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting or a closely related field.
- Post-secondary education in finance, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong understanding of mortgage underwriting principles, credit risk assessment, and lending guidelines.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingualism is considered an asset.
- Proven ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy in a high-detail, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback to peers and stakeholders.
