SR AI Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr AI Engineer based in Brazil.

In this role, you will join a highly specialized Applied AI team focused on building and scaling real-world LLM-powered products that directly impact education and learning experiences. You will work at the intersection of machine learning engineering, software development, and applied research, transforming advanced AI capabilities into production-ready systems. The role combines hands-on development with technical leadership, as you will guide more junior engineers while helping define engineering standards and scalable architectures for LLM-based applications. You will explore and implement cutting-edge approaches such as agents, vector databases, and LLM evaluation frameworks. The environment is fast-moving, experimental, and deeply collaborative, requiring strong curiosity and continuous learning. Your work will directly influence how AI is used to improve learning outcomes across a large-scale educational ecosystem.

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the Applied AI Engineering team.
• Identify and develop opportunities to apply AI and LLMs to solve real business and product challenges.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and build visualizations to better understand business problems and support AI solution design.
• Design and implement scalable architectures and engineering standards for LLM-based applications.
• Optimize the Applied AI engineering stack, including CI/CD pipelines, tooling, and development workflows.
• Build and deploy AI applications using vector databases, LLMs, and agent-based (single and multi-agent) systems.
• Develop evaluation and validation pipelines for LLM applications, including datasets and LLM-as-a-judge frameworks.
• Create small backend and frontend components to prototype and validate AI product concepts.
• Stay up to date with academic research, technical blogs, and industry advancements to generate hypotheses and improvements for AI systems.

Requirements:

• Solid experience in Data Science, Machine Learning Engineering, or working with LLM APIs in production environments.
• Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with Git and software engineering best practices.
• Experience designing or working with AI/ML systems, particularly LLM-based applications.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers in a technical environment.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional settings.
• Proactive mindset with strong ownership and problem-solving ability.
• English proficiency sufficient to read and understand technical papers, documentation, and research.
• Familiarity with concepts such as vector databases, agents, prompt engineering, or LLM evaluation frameworks (plus).
• Experience building production-grade ML systems or AI products at scale (plus).
