• Conduct dimensional inspections of BIW components such as stamped parts and minor sub-assemblies and assemblies using various measurement tools and equipment (e.g., CMM, Laser Trackers, Inline Measurement Systems, Calipers, Micrometers and others)
• Define and implement corrective actions to reduce defects and improve process capability.
• Document inspection results and generate detailed summaries
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, production, and quality, to resolve dimensional issues
• Use GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and manufacturing processes
• Create or modify CMM programs (commonly using software like PC-DMIS, Calypso, or PolyWorks) to automate part inspections.
• Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards in all inspection activities
• Compare actual data to CAD models or drawings and highlight deviations.
• Ensure traceability of measurement results for audits or reviews.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time during the repair of a vehicle
• Must be able to walk, sit, bend, push/pull, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach or crawl frequently.
• Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Able to follow instructions in English, both written and verbal
• Available to work overtime, off-shifts or weekends, as needed
• Strong understanding of BIW tooling, fixtures, automation, joining and SPC, processes.
• Familiarity with CAD tools, MES systems, and plant-floor digital manufacturing platforms.
• Understanding of GD&T, DFM/DFA, quality tools like (G8D, 5why analysis, and automotive quality standards.
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
• Experience in dimensional inspection or quality control, preferably in the automotive industry is desirable
• Basic knowledge of using measurement tools and equipment
• Understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is a plus
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Good communication and teamwork abilities
• Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and quality control methodologies
• Familiarity with BIW processes and components is a plus
• Basic Microsoft Office knowledge (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
• Minimum of 4–6 years of relevant experience.
