We are looking for a Sr Director, Human Resources to lead the HRBP Team, help build a culture of engagement, and drive business results by delivering measurable and sustained people solutions across Upwork. As a consultative and trusted leader, you will act as an advisor and coach to senior executives and the HRBP team in defining and delivering talent strategies that drive inclusion, employee engagement, retention and high performance. Your Responsibilities:
  • Define and execute talent strategies to engage, develop and retain our workforce across the Company.
  • Achieve a deep understanding of the business strategy, goals and objectives and support organizational changes by developing and implementing appropriate change management plans.
  • Coach and provide guidance to the HRBP team to deliver key people initiatives and OKRs, regularly measuring progress and alignment with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to senior leaders on employee relations matters for a wide range of issues and guide the HRBP team in conducting investigations and taking appropriate actions.
  • Provide leadership to the organization in driving performance management to ensure employees and managers are trained on the processes
  • Work with senior leadership to facilitate goal setting and development plans.
  • Drive talent management and succession planning activities with senior leaders and internal stakeholders to foster a culture of growth and development.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with legal department as needed.
  • Be an impartial steward for the organization advocating for employees and the business, and modeling company values.

What it takes to catch our eye:
  • Extensive HRBP leadership experience in the Tech industry preferred; A combination of HR experience in the following areas: Organizational design, org planning, performance management, business advising, compensation and rewards, recognition programs, culture carrier, employee engagement, coaching and development, conflict resolution, recruiting, data analysis, and employee relations.
  • Strong business acumen, ability to think strategically and translate organizational goals into key people initiatives and programs.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; effective listener, ability to connect and influence actions and outcomes with employees at all levels in the organization.
  • Track record of strong business partnership with senior leaders within a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze data, understand trends and develop recommendations for action based on the analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to a company's evolving stages and needs.
  • Experience with leading a hybrid, remote team

The annual base salary for this position in California and Washington ranges from $234,000 - $316,000. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salary for this position in California and Washington, and individual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Additionally, this position is eligible for the annual bonus plan or sales incentive plan and eligibility to participate in our long term equity incentive program.
