Pine Gate Renewables, the operational asset team is accountable for delivering the optimal results from each asset currently operating. The 99 operating assets have 3 GW capacity and are across 32 states. This team is critical to ensuring profitable, sustainable assets for the company.
The Sr. Director, Operations will play a pivotal role in overseeing the operational aspects of our solar and storage assets, ensuring a seamless execution, maximizing efficiency, and driving excellence in all operational activities. You will lead a team that allows Pine Gate to “Get Solar Done” by ensuring that the sites all operate at a high level of performance and maximize the capacity factor. In the role, you will be responsible for managing the operations of solar power plants with 3 GW capacity, ensuring their safe and efficient functioning, and achieving optimal energy production. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including development, EPC management, engineering, compliance, asset optimization, and asset management. In addition to internal cross functional teams, your team will oversee the third-party O&M providers to ensure streamlined operations, compliance with industry standards, and continuous improvement in operational processes. What You’ll Do
Strategic Planning and Execution:
- Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company's goals and objectives.
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure operational performance and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide feedback to development and EPC management teams regarding technology and site design for new projects.
- Ensure effective resource allocation, budgeting, and cost control to achieve operational targets.
Solar & Storage Project Operations Management:
- Oversee the third-party operations and maintenance providers of solar power plants, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient electricity generation, including developing and improving O&M agreements as well as providing feedback and scorecards.
- Establish and maintain effective preventive and corrective maintenance programs, inspections, and repairs.
- Implement and maintain robust health, safety, and environmental practices across all O&M providers.
- Ensure compliance with NERC / FERC / ISO requirements in collaboration with PGR’s Compliance team.
- Develop and manage a spare parts program at the site specific and portfolio level including the proposal of an initial spare parts inventory to be included in EPC agreements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with development and construction engineering teams to optimize plant design, equipment selection, and construction processes.
- Work with project management teams to ensure seamless project execution, adherence to timelines, and efficient resource allocation.
- Coordinate with maintenance providers to develop and implement preventative and repair maintenance plans.
- Coordinate with optimization team to develop and implement adjustments to maintenance and operational plans to improve equipment performance monitoring.
- Collaborate with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and permit requirements.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide strong leadership to the operations team, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and safety.
- Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing operations team, promoting professional growth and career development.
- Conduct performance evaluations, provide timely constructive feedback, and identify training needs to enhance team capabilities.
- Encourage innovation and continuous learning within the operations department.
Must-Haves
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in operations management in the solar and storage renewable energy industry.
- Strong understanding of solar energy and storage technologies, photovoltaic systems, and solar project lifecycle.
- Demonstrated success in managing large-scale solar energy projects and optimizing operational performance.
- Experience managing contractual relationships including those with third party O&M providers.
- Solid knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to solar energy operations. .
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership and team management experience, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve operational goals.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, renewable energy, business administration, or a related field.
Working Environment and Physical Demand
- Travel up to 30% to solar sites.
