Senior Manager, Technical Program Management

The Senior Manager of Technical Program Management role at PagerDuty is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of TPM’s in driving programs and projects to success! You will be considered a subject matter expert in the agile product delivery/program management field and have demonstrated success in crafting and leading product development processes.  You will lead execution on our vision for establishing mechanisms for predictable, efficient, and sustainable delivery of value to customers both internal and external while driving greater alignment and collaboration between Engineering and Product. Responsibilities
  • Is accountable for 2-3 department goals
  • Manages a minimum of 2 group level roadmaps
  • Serves as escalation for Programs/Projects will have the highest degree of technical uncertainty
  • Provides oversight of large scale product development program planning, milestone and success criteria definition, resource allocation plan, and estimation leading to predictable delivery
  • Meet with cross functional partners to understand their group as it translates into needs from the department
  • Assists direct reports with prioritization or escalation of issues. 
  • Facilitates collaboration across disciplines/groups towards the resolution of issues. 
  • Comply with financial accountability targets for areas of responsibility.
  • Provides oversight of planning efforts (quarterly and annual) for department level scope/size
  • Identification of processes needed and ability to organize resources, drive the design & implementation, and ongoing support for sustainability
  • Pro-actively retro processes in place to ensure they are still of value 
  • Identify and sunset or re-engineer processes that are not providing value
  • Advocate and support activities that encourage continuous improvement and agility (ex. health checks, retros)
  • Fosters a learning and improvement environment leading to the most efficient and effective work processes
  • Regularly seeks feedback and incorporates improvements from partners and team members  
  • Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to review and action Program Health metrics
  • Oversight of the identification and implementation of tools and processes to improve product development productivity in support of the program 
  • Leads/drives or provide oversight in crafting change management plans to support adoption of new/modified processes in service to streamlining product delivery
  • Manages relationships and provides status reporting for areas of responsibility
  • Acts as a thought partner in helping stakeholders articulate needs and contributes knowledge to influence program/initiative requirements and maximize outcomes
  • Builds a strong network across the organization and uses contacts to gain buy-in
  • Working at the roadmap level, creates portfolio budgets, monitor and report on product development pacing.
  • Manages team spend
  • Manages employee performance and/or discipline issues and works with senior leadership to recommend compensation, recognition, transfer, promotion, or other personnel decisions.
  • Mentor, guide, develop, coach, and support employee growth. 
  • Provides coaching on the project/program/assignment
  • Able to interview and hire individuals across the org. Proactive in fine tuning and improving existing interview processes

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of program management experience in software development (preferred product delivery environment)
  • 2+ years of people management experience
  • SDLC knowledge required
  • Jira power user
  • Undergraduate degree required or applicable experience
  • Agile certifications or equivalent experience required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Work experience in a fast growth startup environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience in DevOps and digital/cloud operations
