Job description

Team: IT

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Machine Learning Engineer based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of AI-powered software by designing, building, and deploying advanced backend generative AI solutions.
You will work on complex R&D challenges, transforming innovative ideas into reliable, scalable, and production-ready systems.
As a technical leader, you will influence machine learning architecture, engineering standards, and the way AI products are built and delivered.
You will collaborate with talented applied scientists and engineers in a remote-first environment focused on agentic AI and AI-native experiences.
Your work will directly contribute to developing intelligent workflows and next-generation platforms used at scale.
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who thrives in ambiguity, values ownership, and enjoys solving challenging technical problems.

Accountabilities:

You will be responsible for driving the development of robust machine learning and backend systems, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, and ready for production deployment.

  • Design, build, and deploy backend generative AI solutions that enable intelligent and automated workflows.
  • Transform complex and ambiguous R&D challenges into clear, scalable, and production-grade software solutions.
  • Own the quality, reliability, and technical direction of code moving into production.
  • Contribute to machine learning architecture decisions and continuously improve engineering practices.
  • Develop infrastructure and workflows supporting agentic AI performance, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Evaluate, adapt, and optimize models to deliver high-quality production solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, applied scientists, product managers, and technical leaders to drive alignment and execution.
  • Act as a technical role model by promoting engineering excellence, ownership, and clarity across teams.
  • Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced machine learning or backend engineer who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to solve complex problems independently and collaborate effectively across disciplines.

    • Proven experience building highly scalable backend engineering solutions in cloud-based environments.
    • Strong ability to navigate ambiguity, define technical approaches, and deliver practical solutions.
    • Deep understanding of software engineering principles, with a strong sense of ownership over production systems.
    • Experience working with machine learning concepts, generative AI, or AI-powered applications.
    • Proficiency with technologies such as Python, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, or related modern engineering tools.
    • Familiarity with AI development frameworks, backend infrastructure, or agentic AI systems is an asset.
    • Ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate research and development while maintaining high standards of code quality.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • A proactive mindset, curiosity, and passion for advancing AI-driven technologies.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive base salary range of $195,000 - $235,000 CAD, depending on location, experience, and skills.
      • Eligibility for annual bonus programs and equity-based incentives for permanent employees.
      • Comprehensive health, wellness, and retirement benefits.
      • Generous paid leave policies and wellbeing-focused initiatives.
      • Dedicated professional development budget to support continuous learning and growth.
      • Fully remote work flexibility within Canada, with opportunities for intentional collaboration through office spaces and team events.
      • Opportunity to work alongside experienced AI engineers and applied scientists on innovative AI solutions.
      • Flexible remote environment with collaboration across Canada and the US.
