Job Description

Team: IT

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Staff Machine Learning Scientist - Translational AI in United States.
This role provides scientific and technical leadership at the intersection of translational medicine and advanced machine learning. You will shape how genomic, pathology, and multimodal foundation models are applied to high-impact biomedical problems, including target identification, biomarker discovery, and patient stratification. Operating with broad technical autonomy, you will guide modeling strategies across multiple projects while remaining hands-on in experimentation, evaluation, and model interpretation. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including AI scientists, bioinformaticians, translational researchers, and clinical partners—is key to delivering biologically grounded and clinically relevant insights. This position offers the opportunity to influence strategic decisions, contribute to scientific publications, and advance the integration of AI into clinical applications.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead the application and post-training of foundation models for translational and clinical problems, including biomarker discovery and therapy response assessment.
  • Define modeling strategies that bridge pretrained foundation models and downstream translational use cases.
  • Provide technical mentorship and review modeling approaches across the team.
  • Build, experiment, and evaluate ML models across genomics, transcriptomics, ctDNA, imaging, and clinical metadata.
  • Ensure outputs are biologically interpretable, clinically relevant, and aligned with decision-making needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to frame high-value AI questions and develop scalable, reproducible workflows.
  • Represent scientific initiatives externally through publications, conference presentations, and strategic collaborations.
  • Requirements:
  • PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years applying ML to biological, genomic, or clinical data, preferably in oncology, immunology, or translational medicine.
  • Deep experience with foundation models, representation learning, self-supervised learning, or deep sequence models.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ML outputs into actionable biological or clinical insights.
  • Strong proficiency in PyTorch and modern ML tooling (HuggingFace transformers, PEFT, Captum, MLFlow).
  • Proven scientific and technical leadership through project ownership, mentorship, or cross-team influence.
  • Preferred: experience integrating multimodal data, drug discovery, clinical trial analysis, or regulatory-facing studies.
  • Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range: $124,800—$156,000 USD (remote, USA).
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage for employees and dependents.
  • Fertility and pregnancy/baby bonding benefits, free testing for immediate family.
  • 401k plan with employer match, commuter benefits, and employee referral program.
  • Flexible, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Opportunities for scientific mentorship, career growth, and external representation.
  • Fully remote option with engagement in world-class translational AI projects.
