Job Description

Team: IT

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Athena) based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to design and scale critical infrastructure that improves the security and reliability of the open-source software ecosystem.
You will take ownership of a key engineering domain, building backend systems that process complex security data at enterprise scale.
The position combines distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and security-focused engineering challenges.
You will influence architecture decisions, establish engineering best practices, and help shape the future of a high-impact platform.
Working within a remote-first engineering environment, you will collaborate with talented teams while driving technical excellence and innovation.
This is an opportunity for a senior engineer to create lasting impact by building secure, scalable, and production-ready systems used by organizations worldwide.

Accountabilities:

  • Own and drive the development of a significant technical domain, such as customer onboarding workflows, entitlement management, or data validation pipelines.
  • Design, architect, and implement reliable backend systems using Go and cloud technologies, ensuring solutions are scalable, observable, tested, and maintainable.
  • Build and improve data processing pipelines that ingest, validate, deduplicate, and transform complex vulnerability information into structured outputs.
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices across the team, including code review standards, testing strategies, observability practices, and incident response processes.
  • Partner with technical leadership and engineering stakeholders to define architecture, technical priorities, and roadmap execution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define interface contracts, improve data quality, and deliver reliable platform capabilities.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of complex systems, from initial design and prototyping through production deployment and ongoing optimization.
  • Act as a technical leader by mentoring engineers, influencing decisions, and raising engineering standards across the organization.
  • Requirements:

    • 7+ years of backend software engineering experience with a proven track record of designing, building, and owning complex production systems.
    • Strong experience with Go programming and backend system development.
    • Experience working with cloud infrastructure, particularly GCP, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
    • Deep understanding of designing systems that process, validate, and manage data from diverse and unstructured sources.
    • Proven ability to take business requirements from concept or prototype stages through to reliable, scalable production services.
    • Experience designing systems involving customer access controls, entitlement models, workflow management, or similar complex business logic.
    • Strong knowledge of production engineering practices, including monitoring, observability, reliability, and incident management.
    • Ability to think analytically, investigate complex technical problems, and develop effective solutions.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical teams and clearly explain complex concepts.
    • Experience in security, software supply chain, infrastructure, or related technical domains is a plus.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive compensation package based on experience and skills.
      • Stock options with opportunities for long-term ownership.
      • Fully remote-first work environment with flexible scheduling.
      • Monthly stipend to support coworking spaces, phone, and internet expenses.
      • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance coverage for employees and dependents.
      • Flexible paid time off to support work-life balance and personal well-being.
      • 18 weeks of paid parental leave for eligible employees.
      • Opportunities to work on innovative security and infrastructure technologies with meaningful industry impact.
      • Team meetups and bi-annual destination summits focused on collaboration and connection.
      • Supportive culture that values ownership, trust, inclusion, and continuous growth.
