Together, we're working at the pace of change to improve patient lives with diagnostic tools that address the world's biggest health challenges.The Systems Integration Engineer for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for supporting the design, prototyping and testing of modules and sub-systems of our next-generation hematology analyzers, as well as assisting in module and system-level characterization efforts. This person is an integral member of the New Product Development team, and will also assist in coordinating activities with, and transfer of knowledge from our Innovation R&D group.This position is part of the Hematology Division located in Miami, FL and will be on-site. At Beckman Coulter, our vision is to relentlessly reimagine healthcare, one diagnosis at a time.You will be a part of the Systems Engineering team and report to the Director of Engineering, New Product Development responsible for leading design tasks that create hardware, fluidics and electronics modules, along with the integration of these modules into top-level systems and instrumentation. - Design, build and test complex modules and systems, ensuring that components of the system are integrated and function as a whole.
- Participate in DFMEA, risk assessment and design review sessions with Engineering and Systems teams.
- Build upon the existing fluidics and electro-mechanical architecture to optimize performance, simplify design, improve reliability and reduce cost.
- Adopt a hands-on approach to build, document and troubleshoot engineering breadboard and prototypes, working alongside the NPD and Innovation teams.
- Understand key performance metrics of hematology measurements and identify technical solutions to meet these requirements.
- Refine system architecture and implement a system logic for scripting, event handling, error reporting and recovery, and telemetry data collection and analysis, in cooperation with our teams of FW and SW engineers.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners and suppliers to ensure DFX, DFM and Service requirements are designed in, tracked for progress and documented.
- Master's degree in a related Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, Biomedical) with 5+ years minimum direct work experience.
- Knowledge of microfluidics, precision liquid handling and associated hardware and components.
- Experience in design of experiments, rapid prototyping, breadboarding, programing, testing, data processing and root cause analysis.
- Ability to work independently and on cross-functional teams with research groups, as well as take work direction and follow procedures.
- PhD in a related Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, Biomedical).
- Testing and characterization in a medical diagnostics, life sciences or engineering laboratory setting.
- Hands-on prototyping, electronics and programming of hardware.
- Statistical analysis and an understanding of noise-contributing factors within fluidics and/or electronics environments.
- Working well against tight schedules and deadlines.
