Technical Writer II
Job Description
The Technical Writer II is responsible for the creation, revision, maintenance, production and updates of all product service-related technical publications and manuals. This role will be a strategic partner across Motiv departments to proactively identify and provide effective solutions in areas such as knowledge transfer, product usability, and certification that support our future strategy for growth. This position reports to the Technical Publications Manager and is a remote position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collect and interpret technical data or information and coordinate for production of documentation.
- Ownership and delivery of Technical Service Bulletin (TSB), and retrofit documentation.
- Ownership and delivery of diagnostic and repair manuals, including vehicle diagnostic and troubleshooting, repair, schematic, and IPC content.
- Work with Engineering and Customer Support teams to create new and revise existing standardized procedures and attend hands on validations of procedures when appropriate.
- Create graphics for use in documentation.
- Gather feedback on documentation from internal stakeholders and end users to improve documentation useability.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to learn complex concepts and communicate the information in a way that is understood by the end user.
- Solidworks or related 3D CAD design software use.
- Various authoring tools such as FrameMaker, Paligo, and XML editors.
- Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and LightRoom.
- Ability to work in fast-paced development and manufacturing cross-functional environments.
- A team player with strong communication skills. Must possess a sense of urgency. A self-starter who can independently prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft office, Google Suite, Jira and other software systems like Plex.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and collaboration – simplifying and providing practical, clearly applicable solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communications across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willing and able to travel as necessary.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree; or other Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Technical Writing or Communications.
- 2+ years’ experience in a technical publication organization or related technical writing experience working in automotive or other hardware focused industries.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
