Network Engineer

General Summary

Commtech is looking for qualified Network Engineer to provide technical support for our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a very detailed understanding of network principals and fundamentals. They will be very experienced in building, troubleshooting or modifying switch configurations, IP address schemes, VLans, Subnetting and have strong communication skills. This engineer will be able to talk to an audience of varying levels of technical knowledge to convey proposed products and services to assist them with their technological needs

Essential Functions

• Designs, builds, and implements network systems
• Pro-actively identify and resolve network configuration issues.
• Provides direct support in day-to-day operations on server hardware and operating systems; duties include evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
• Work with the Systems Engineering team to create network diagrams and otherwise document solutions for customers
• Define network solutions for customers (Switching, routing, tunnels, overlays, etc.)
• Define standard configurations for devices
• Define and document Network Engineering Standards
• Define and document standards for Network Performance and Optimization
• Manage IP addressing and ensure consistent and accurate implementation and management
• Manage Domain Name Services (DNS)
• Design, implement, and maintain secure TCP/IP networks IAW industry standards and new technologies such as Software-defined networks (SDN).
• Develop and maintain a network technology roadmap and be prepared to detail recommended hardware and software expenditures on short notice.
• Manage project schedules and aid quick identification and resolution of technical challenges and obstacles to keep projects on schedule.
• Perform independent research and report on findings.
• Work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain configuration management control in accordance with defined standards, policies, and industry best practices

Minimum Qualifications

• 3-5 years of Network Engineering experience including:
  1. Network design, operation, and configuration of equipment
  2. Firewalls, VPNs, virtualization, IP platforms, protocols, and services
  3. Network performance technologies including monitoring tools/solutions
  4. MS Windows and Linux OS knowledge and associated environmental technologies
  5. Defining and setting technical standards for an enterprise organization
• Experience with Extreme, Aruba, Ruckus, and Dell switches is a plus.
• Experience with SonicWall, Fortinet, and Palo Alto is a plus.
• CCNA or CCNP certification is a plus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Frequent evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is minimal and confined mostly to the New Orleans metro area.

Required Education and Experience

1. B.A. in Information Systems or equivalent experience
2. Seven to ten years of experience with hardware and software installation and maintenance
3. Extensive working knowledge of PCs, network hardware, operating systems and software

Work Authorization

Authorized to work in the US.
