RAN Standards Engineer

Role Summary

Mavenir is looking for standards engineers to help development of Open RAN (O-RAN) base stations, with participating in industry standards forums.

You will work with other system engineers, software developers and test engineers. You will prepare contributions to reflect development team's design considerations, attend standards meetings to contribute to the standards specifications, and bring back the standards knowledge to the development team. You will also provide technical advices to the team and coordinate the implementation works.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in 3GPP NR RAN and O-RAN standards, wireless communications, OFDM, MIMO, signal processing, RAN system design & analysis across L1/L2/L3.

Key Responsibilities

The standards engineer hired for this position will have the following responsibilities:

• Standardization
  • Work with implementation team and other system engineers to form proposals for 3GPP RAN WGs / O-RAN that are necessary for productization.
  • Attend O-RAN / 3GPP RAN WG meetings and push the proposal through

• Write feature requirement specifications and oversee feature implementations
  • Read 3GPP specifications and explain them to developers
  • Define clear requirements for feature implementations
  • Define integration test cases and pass criteria for the requirements
  • Oversee implementation and integration testing, and provide technical advices

• PHY/MAC Algorithm development and analysis / simulations
  • Develop and analyze PHY/MAC algorithms for non-terrestrial network systems.
  • Develop and analyze PHY/MAC algorithms for O-RAN base stations

• IPR generation
  • Develop standards-essential patents for 3GPP / O-RAN standards
  • Develop essential implementation patents that will help to differentiate the products

Job Requirements

• Strong fundamental technical background & experiences in some of the following areas:
  • 3GPP LTE and NR RAN standards
  • O-RAN standards
  • Wireless communication theory, information theory, digital signal processing
  • OFDM, L1 algorithms (modem algorithms, e.g., demodulator, MIMO receiver, MMSE-IRC, etc.), L2 algorithms (link adaptation, power control, scheduling, etc.)
  • L3 protocol stacks
  • RAN baseband system design & architecture, time budget, core counting
  • Link and system-level simulations
• Programming skills: C/C++, Matlab, Python
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• M.S. or Ph.D degree in EE, majoring in wireless communications, minimum 5 years experience in telecommunications industry
