Job Description
TheStaff Accountant– Payroll & Month-End is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll reconciliations, preparing and posting journal entries, and performing balance sheet account reconciliations. This role plays a key part in the monthly close process and works closely with Payroll, HR, and Finance to ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
Salary:$70-75K based on experience
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Reconciliation
•
Reconcile payroll registers to the general ledger on a per-pay-period and monthly basis.
•
Verify the accuracy of payroll postings, tax withholdings, benefit deductions, and employer contributions.
•
Resolve discrepancies between payroll data, HR records, and accounting entries.
•
Coordinate with HR/Payroll providers to correct errors promptly.
Month-End Close
•
Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll, benefits, accruals, and other recurring and non-recurring transactions.
•
Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual close schedules.
•
Ensure all entries comply with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations
•
Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, including payroll liabilities, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, and other asset/liability accounts.
•
Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
•
Maintain clear documentation to support all balances and reconciliations.
Process Improvement & Compliance
•
Maintain confidentiality and comply with all data protection and privacy requirements.
•
Assist in developing and implementing process improvements to streamline reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
•
Support internal and external audit requests for payroll and related accounts.
Qualifications
•
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
•
2+ years of accounting experience, preferably with payroll reconciliation and month-end close responsibilities.
•
Working knowledge of GAAP.
•
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
•
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with payroll systems (ADP, Workday, etc.) preferred.
•
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
