Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serve as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
Duties
Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
Independently installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing plumbing systems and equipment.
Interprets and applies building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other plumbing guides/codes to determine the most efficient and effective technique to perform the work, material and sequence to use.
Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies, loads, and tests new and existing steam and condensate systems.
Performs routine preventive maintenance and repairs on industrial and mechanical systems and equipment.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position involves duties that are subject to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
This position is subject to day/night shift changes.
The employee may be required to work overtime.
The employee may be recalled to duty.
The employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position requires the employee to possess the applicable license(s) or authorizations(s) to operate assigned equipment or perform assigned duties.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
The incumbent is required to lift up to 44 lbs.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Mechanic Leader ~ without more than normal supervision. which includes: (1) Leading and/or instructing others in the performance of maintenance mechanic functions/duties; (2) Maintaining of piping systems and equipment used in utility systems; (3) Maintaining and repairing industrial equipment; and (4) Demonstrating proper work methods in pipefitting and industrial equipment repair. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: The employee works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and in hard-to-reach places and is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 44 pounds unassisted and over 44 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions: work is performed inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, smoky and greasy. The employee is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather, on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters. Is exposed to bad smelling fumes, and floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, oily, and slippery. The employee is frequently exposed to noise, the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and infections and uncomfortable heat conditions; and occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, injury from falling, electrical shock, or respiratory ailments. Employee is often required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats, flash shield and other.

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
Additional information
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
