Summary
About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties
Interpret work from drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
Repair items made of common types of metals or alloys in various shapes, sizes or thickness.
Maintain proper speed and flame to produce desired results.
Determine repairs for welding equipment.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
This position requires proof of welding qualifications in one of the four types of welds: 1) Certified Welder (CW) qualification, 2) GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or TIG Welding qualification,
3) SMAW or Stick Welding qualification, OR 4) FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding). Welding Qualification can be obtained through some type of college or other welding classes/tests performed by a CWI/QC1 (Certified Welding Inspectors).
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Welding Worker without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common which includes analyzing weld specifications against engineering blueprints, validating welding standards for machine programs, and evaluating metal thickness for the precise modification of parts. I can determine proper materials to be used for welding repairs and utilize welding techniques to complete metal production. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort:The work requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling and sometimes working in cramped and awkward positions. The work involves regular lifting, carrying and/or holding objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds; and occasionally lifting objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds to set up work and equipment needed to complete tasks.
Working Conditions:Welding and related work may be performed indoors or outdoors, sometimes in bad weather, in areas which are noisy, dirty or smoky. Work involves exposure to grease, fumes, heat, flying sparks or glare and may include exposure to infrared and/or ultraviolet radiation; as well as hazards from electric shock, burns, cuts, eye and other injuries. There is discomfort from wearing protective equipment such as goggles welding helmets, face shields, aprons, gloves or other protective clothing or equipment.
Additional information
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
One year trial/probationary period may be required.
Direct deposit of pay is required.
