Director, Engineering (SRE/Operations)

WP Engine is looking for a Director, Engineering - SRE / Operations to lead a team of highly talented leaders and engineers that are utilizing an SRE mentality to craft, build, and maintain complex systems at scale. In this role, you'll primarily be responsible for all aspects of Production Operations including incident management, change management to ship products of high quality, recruiting exceptional engineers, motivating and leading engineering teams to do their best work! You will work closely with peers in Engineering, Product, Program Management, Customer Support and others across the company to define and shape the overall Production Engineering capabilities and ultimately deliver net positive impact to our customers and teams.
Responsibilities
- Operational Strategy
- Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company's overall objectives and goals
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, efficiency enhancement and automation
- Operational Excellence
- Evaluate and enhance operational processes, workflows, and systems for delivering 99.999% of availability and industry leading WordPress platform performance to delight our customers
- Streamline production engineering procedures to increase productivity, reduce errors, and improve overall quality and stability
- Implement ITIL framework best practices to define, measure and continuously improve performance and availability of production services
- Leadership
- Manage and lead a diverse team of engineers distributed globally for 24x7x365 operations
- Partner with leaders across the enterprise to deliver to the business objectives, operational improvements and
- Lead production engineering team and implement best in class SRE practices that will improve the reliability of platform and applications
- Need to communicate the vision, lead by example, build a culture of trust and empowerment
Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science / Information Systems or related field
- 8+ years of proven engineering leadership experience leading productive, high-functioning teams, and can describe how you enabled their productivity
- 8+ years of Service Management experience to drive excellence in Incident, Change and Problem management. Continuously measure, analyze and improve MTTD and MTTR metrics.
- Experience in operating large-scale systems handling billions of requests per day
- Proven track record in application development, infrastructure, security and cloud technologies
- You have experience with building and operating large scale global SaaS/PaaS environments hosted in GCP, Azure, and AWS
- Experience in Cloud & Container platform Strategies, Design, Architecture and Migration
- Leading complex projects by bringing together the right perspectives, identifying roadblocks, and integrating feedback from clients and team members
- Strong automation experience and mindset in building and driving adoption of self-healing and resilient systems
- Drive efforts for monitoring, alerting and self-healing based on real-time data from various sources including APM, logs, servers, network, storage, etc
- Familiar with working with APIs, CI/CD, Containerization, Kubernetes, and Agile development
- Experience in developing and operationalizing cloud services at scale
- Platform services monitoring all the way from the edge to backend services to analyze and detect problems proactively in various layers and take remediation actions proactively
- Reduce the number of alerts by deducting failures and automate the recovery process to improve efficiency

Base Salary Range
$192,000.00 - $288,000.00
We believe that compensation should be reflective of the impact you have within the organization relative to the market value of your role. The estimated base salary range for this position is as listed above. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Our salary ranges are determined by job role and responsibilities and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for salaries for the position nationwide. The actual base pay will vary based on various factors including job-related skills and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process.
