Director, Subscriptions Growth Marketing
Job Description
You will be the marketing lead for Udemy's consumer subscription product, responsible for driving engagement and growth. In close partnership with the product marketing team, you will drive the overarching subscriptions marketing growth strategy, influencing and leading cross-functional partners to bring this to life. This is a high-impact individual contributor role (to start) on Udemy's marketing team. This is a highly cross-functional role, working closely with partners in Marketing, Finance, Product, Data Science, and Engineering to further the company's learner strategy. You will have direct influence over how our learning product evolves, serving the needs of Udemy's current (and potential) learner population. You will build business cases to prove the value of these opportunities, influencing the product roadmap on the highest impact projects to build. This is a highly visible and impactful role, driving recommendations to our executive team to make key decisions that drive our business forward.
About You
You are an expert in subscriptions and engagement strategy, with immense ownership and drive. You are an effective leader, skilled at coaching and supporting cross-functional partners. You think strategically about the big picture, but love to jump into the details and lead a project from start to finish, partnering closely with technical cross-functional stakeholders. You are a strong communicator, skilled at putting together a strategic narrative for executives that drives clarity and alignment. You love building things from scratch and thrive in ambiguity, finding new ways of framing and solving problems. You are highly analytical and comfortable working with data, capable of interpreting complex analysis into simplified takeaways for non-technical partners.
Here's what you'll be doing:
- Shape overall marketing strategy to grow subscriptions. Work with product marketing to develop business insights, growth levers, and opportunities to improve customer LTV.
- Understand the key levers that drive acquisition, retention, and churn. Lead ad hoc analyses and determine high-impact opportunities to drive subscriber growth and retention.
- Lead complex, high-impact projects. Partner with internal stakeholders to move projects forward - clearly identifying problem statements, goals, risks to senior leadership.
- Closely monitor performance of subscriptions business. Shape ongoing performance reporting of subscription KPIs for executive leadership.
- Partner with Finance to create accurate and reliable business forecasts.
- Develop and present strategic recommendations to executive management.
- Identify bottlenecks or roadblocks to executing on our marketing growth strategies.
- Partner with Product and other teams to build martech and other infrastructure to best support marketing acquisition and retention efforts.
- Consider the overall Udemy portfolio and shape the upsell path/strategy (from consumer up to enterprise)
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders across the organization including product marketing, product, engineering, data science, and finance.
We're excited about you because you have:
- 10+ years experience in growth marketing and/or monetization for subscription products/businesses
- Success building and executing growth strategies for consumer tech companies
- 2+ years management experience - skilled at coaching employees at all levels
- Self starter with the excitement and drive to accelerate new subscription growth projects
- Strong strategy development - able to pull together multiple data points to create a compelling plan
- Strong execution - ability to roll up your sleeves and lead high-visibility projects
- Experience serving as the lead of a large cross-functional program
- Strong leadership presence and excellent communication skills
- Developed business cases, capable of researching and sizing business opportunities
- Demonstrated success partnering with and influencing product, engineering, and data science stakeholders to deliver results
- A strong focus on the customer experience

Compensation structure for SF based candidates:
Minimum Salary: $172,000 + Bonus + Equity + Benefits (see below)
