Ciena is looking for a skilled, highly motivated senior technical writer. We’re looking for a problem solver with excellent language skills who will write easy-to-understand user guides and online help. You’ll also create tutorials, configuration guides, and other user assistance to help our customers use our products.

Responsibilities

• You will create and maintain customer-facing documentation for Blue Planet products.

General Activities

• Write, maintain, and improve customer documentation
• Supplement documentation with relevant use cases and procedural steps, and include relevant graphics
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction to achieve release deadlines, customer priorities, and be able to quickly become proficient with the product, new tools, and software

Collaboration with stakeholders

• You will interact with developers, subject matter experts, product management, and customer support to recognize trends and topics of interest and create content that meets the needs of our customers, while also identify and close gaps in documentation.
• You’ll participate in weekly scrum activities and team meetings to understand release requirements, priorities, and timelines.

Requirements

• Excellent writing, editing, grammar, and verbal communication skills and a strong attention to detail
• Over 9+ years’ experience planning and writing customer-focused documentation for software audiences
• Experience writing for external audiences, and aptitude with technical documentation
• Ability to plan, schedule, and be flexible while meeting tight deadlines with multiple deliverables
• BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
• Experience working in an agile environment.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with telecom products, and comfort with Git, Confluence, HTML, Markdown, and other documentation tools.
