This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for an experienced portfolio management professional to shape and optimize a global R&D pipeline within a dynamic healthcare environment. Working closely with senior executives and cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will oversee portfolio governance, investment prioritization, scenario planning, and resource allocation across a broad range of development programs. Accountabilities:

  • Lead enterprise-wide R&D portfolio reviews and annual strategic workplan processes to ensure alignment with corporate goals and therapeutic priorities.
  • Drive portfolio optimization across therapeutic areas, modalities, development stages, and risk profiles to maximize long-term value creation.
  • Provide strategic recommendations through data-driven prioritization, scenario analysis, and investment trade-off evaluations.
  • Support governance forums and executive decision-making processes related to portfolio investments, milestone progression, acceleration, or discontinuation of programs.
  • Integrate scientific, clinical, operational, financial, and commercial insights into portfolio strategy and planning activities.
  • Oversee financial forecasting, capital allocation, headcount planning, and external spending considerations tied to R&D initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain portfolio analytics, dashboards, metrics, and executive-level reporting tools to improve visibility and decision quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with development, regulatory, commercial, finance, manufacturing, and business development teams.
  • Support evaluation of external opportunities including licensing, partnerships, collaborations, and acquisition initiatives.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing strategic portfolio management team while promoting transparency, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree such as PhD, MD, PharmD, MSc, or MBA strongly preferred.
    • Minimum 15 years of experience within pharmaceutical or biotech R&D environments, including leadership roles in portfolio or program management.
    • Strong expertise in strategic portfolio management, investment governance, and R&D strategy development.
    • Deep understanding of drug development processes, clinical development, and R&D financial modeling.
    • Experience supporting executive leadership teams and contributing to enterprise-level strategic decisions.
    • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to synthesize complex scientific and business data into actionable recommendations.
    • Proven ability to work effectively within highly matrixed and globally distributed organizations.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, including executive and board-level interactions.
    • Strong leadership capabilities with experience building collaborative, high-performing teams.
    • PMP, PgMP, or equivalent program management certification is considered an advantage.
    • Ability to manage complexity, uncertainty, and long development timelines while maintaining strategic focus and operational execution.
