This role focuses on leading the engineering and design of high-voltage electrical substation projects that are essential to the reliability and efficiency of power transmission systems across the country. You will oversee multidisciplinary engineering efforts, guiding designers, drafters, and technical teams to deliver safe, compliant, and high-quality infrastructure solutions. Acting as both a technical expert and project leader, you will manage multiple concurrent projects, ensuring alignment with schedule, budget, and performance requirements. The position involves close collaboration with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout the full project lifecycle. You will contribute to the development of critical energy infrastructure while applying deep expertise in power systems and substation design. This is a high-impact engineering role suited for someone who thrives in complex, regulated, and fast-paced environments.
Accountabilities:
- Lead the engineering and design of high-voltage substation and switchyard projects from concept through execution and delivery
- Develop and maintain key design documentation, including one-line diagrams, electrical layouts, and technical specifications
- Perform and oversee technical analyses such as ground grid design, load flow studies, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and short-circuit analysis
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, quality standards, and budget constraints
- Coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal engineering teams to ensure effective communication and project alignment
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, including NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE, and ANSI
- Identify technical and project risks and implement practical engineering solutions to resolve issues
- Prepare and manage project schedules and budgets, addressing deviations proactively to maintain project performance
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to drafters, designers, and junior engineers across assigned projects
- Participate in field visits and travel as required to support project execution and client needs
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on power systems
- 5+ years of experience in high-voltage substation engineering and design (230kV and above preferred)
- Strong expertise in AC/DC fundamentals, three-phase power systems, and substation electrical components
- Proficiency in engineering design and analysis software used for substation and power system studies
- Experience producing, reviewing, and interpreting technical drawings and engineering design documents
- Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple concurrent engineering projects
- Proven leadership experience guiding technical teams in engineering or design environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Familiarity with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and related electrical codes
- Proficiency with standard office tools such as spreadsheets, documentation, and communication software
- GIS experience is a plus
- Ability to travel periodically as required by project demands
