The Controller will focus on the production of financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the organization's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and/or international financial reporting standards.The Controller is a hybrid, exempt, full-time, benefits-eligible role, based in Washington, DC, and will report to the Chief Financial Director.The Controller will be responsible for the following:Management and OversightManage a team of 2-3 direct reportsDirect the work performed by the Finance Department including hiring, training, conducting performance evaluations and establishing performance objectives for all personnel supervised.Develop, implement and maintain the workflow and assignments adequate for achieving the Finance Department's goals and objectives.Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.Create organizational financial policies and train other staff on their implementation.Ensure the on-going planning, maintenance and updating of all accounting systems.Lead and/or participate in special projects that may be designated by the CFO as priorities within either the financial area or other areas of significant importance to Greenpeace.Oversee the treasury function including budget control and cash management, investment management, annual audit, financial reporting and grants management. Coordinate the development and maintenance of adequate financial processes working with Greenpeace’s departments to ensure accuracy in financial processing.Lead the implementation of any process improvement, redesign or system enhancement.Budget and Financial ReportingWork with the CFO to coordinate the creation, development, and monitoring of the organization’s budget and projection processes in alignment with its strategy and plan. Issue timely, accurate and complete financial statements and internal financial reports.Work closely with Greenpeace’s budget owners in reviewing departmental results, assessing budget goal attainment and recommending, developing and implementing revised strategies where appropriate.Ensure that all Greenpeace managers have the financial tools they need to effectively manage their respective areas.Support the preparation of materials for Board and senior management team meetings and Greenpeace International reporting.Responsible for the development and/or oversight of financial reports generated out of the accounting system.Compliance and MonitoringManage the organization’s relationship with its external auditors and provide oversight for the annual financial statement audit.
