Job Description

Team: Legal

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Director – Head of Legal Operations & Innovation in the United States.

This is a senior, high-impact leadership role at the intersection of legal operations, technology innovation, and AI-driven transformation, responsible for redefining how legal work is executed at scale. You will architect and lead the strategy for building AI-powered legal systems that improve speed, efficiency, and decision-making across the entire legal function. Acting as a key partner to legal leadership, IT, and business stakeholders, you will translate complex legal workflows into scalable, production-grade automated systems. The role requires a strong blend of technical fluency, operational leadership, and systems thinking, with a focus on building not just tools, but fully integrated legal operating models. You will oversee the design, governance, and deployment of AI-enabled workflows while ensuring risk, compliance, and data integrity are embedded from the start. This is a transformative role where your work will directly shape the future of an AI-first legal organization.

Accountabilities:

  • Define and own the end-to-end strategy and roadmap for AI-driven transformation within the legal function.
  • Identify, design, and deploy AI-powered workflows across legal processes including intake, contracting, research, reporting, and advisory work.
  • Build production-grade automation systems with embedded governance, auditability, privilege awareness, and human-in-the-loop controls.
  • Partner with IT, Legal leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to implement scalable technical solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Establish and enforce risk-tiering frameworks, data governance models, and compliance standards for all legal automation initiatives.
  • Design structured, queryable legal data systems that support analytics, AI use cases, and operational transparency.
  • Lead change management efforts by training legal teams on AI tools and embedding AI fluency into daily workflows.
  • Develop documentation, playbooks, and operational frameworks to ensure scalability and long-term sustainability of legal systems.
  • Track, measure, and report the impact of automation initiatives, including efficiency gains, capacity improvements, and turnaround time reductions.
  • Requirements:

    • 8+ years of experience in legal operations, technical program management, automation, or engineering-adjacent roles focused on workflow transformation.
    • Proven experience designing and deploying production-grade AI or automation systems used in real operational environments.
    • Strong technical skills including API integration, REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, authentication, error handling, and system observability.
    • Hands-on experience with scripting or automation tools such as Python, SQL, or equivalent technologies.
    • Experience building and deploying LLM-powered applications, including multi-step agentic workflows and tool-calling systems.
    • Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, PII handling, and legal or regulatory compliance frameworks.
    • Proven ability to translate ambiguous operational needs into scalable, reliable, production-ready systems.
    • Experience implementing governance frameworks including risk tiering, audit logging, and human-in-the-loop design.
    • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for legal and executive stakeholders.
    • Nice to have: experience in legal operations, CLM or legal tech systems, contract workflows, or attorney-client privilege environments.
    • Benefits:

      • Competitive total compensation including base salary, bonus eligibility, and equity (where applicable).
      • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
      • Generous paid time off, parental leave, and flexible work arrangements.
      • 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer contributions.
      • Strong professional development support and exposure to cutting-edge AI and legal technology initiatives.
      • Opportunity to build and lead a high-impact innovation function within a global, fast-scaling organization.
      • Inclusive and collaborative culture that values experimentation, ownership, and continuous learning.
