The Role: 

Reporting into the CIO organization, the Data Governance Manager at JD Power will be instrumental in supporting and executing data governance initiatives across the organization. This role involves assisting in the creation and maintenance of frameworks, standards, policies, and procedures related to data governance. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of data governance, data quality, and related fields such as data privacy, data security, and data analysis.

What You'll Be Doing in This Role: 

  • Support Data Governance Initiatives: Assist in coordinating the Data Governance committee and execute actions related to data governance.
  • Manage Data Requests: Oversee the flow of data requests across the business, ensuring compliance with governance standards.
  • Process Implementation: Help establish, implement, and document governance processes for managing data.
  • Dataset Management: Assist in creating and managing an inventory of business and product datasets and their interdependencies.
  • Data Visualisation: Use data visualisation tools to accurately document data flows across the business, working with data owners and other stakeholders to maintain data flow diagrams.
  • Compliance and Health Checks: Conduct checks for legal, compliance, and business health related to dataset usage.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work with cross-organizational teams to manage data privacy and data security obligations.
  • Promote Data Consistency: Support efforts to ensure consistency, quality, integrity, and accessibility of shared data and information.
  • Awareness and Training: Build awareness on key data topics and assist in training initiatives on data governance best practices.
  • Data Governance Assessments: Conduct data governance and quality assessments on various projects and programs.
  • Metadata Management: Support in managing and maintaining metadata repositories and data classification processes.
  • Business process mapping & risk identification.

Qualifications of this Role: 

  • Relevant Experience: Experience in data governance, with exposure to data quality measurement and improvement.
  • Tool Proficiency: Familiarity with business glossary, metadata management tools, data quality tools, and business intelligence tools.
  • Data Protection Awareness: Familiarity with data protection, privacy and security concepts.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving Aptitude: Enthusiasm for problem-solving and a resourceful approach to challenges.
  • Educational Background: Professional qualifications in data management are beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Data Governance Knowledge: Experience and knowledge of data governance concepts in a cross-functional environment of multiple data sources/repositories.
  • Process Improvement Skills: Ability to assess and recommend improvements in data management processes and tools to ensure requirements are met.
  • Problem Solving: Enthusiasm for problem solving with a creative and resourceful approach to finding the right solution for the job.
  • Technical Understanding: Self-starter, ability to adapt and quickly develop in-depth technical understanding of new/different applications. Understanding of Data Warehouse and Data Marts concepts, ETL best practices.
  • Administrative Skills: Solid communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills.
  • Data Management Tools Expertise: Familiarity with industry-standard data governance and data quality tools.
